Hey, welcome to Winning Ugly, the weekly battle we wage against the NFL point spread. That's right, man, we don't even do college, just NFL every Wednesday. Two brave men going toe to toe with the point spreads, most difficult sport. There's no argument against that. I'm Nick Bakay, and joining me every week, my good friend, my Rust Belt brother, he's currently touring the globe, making people laugh in a city near you. He put the mic in Mike and Molly.
Billy Gardell, how you doing, brother?
Billy Gardell (1:21)
Hello to my favorite executive producer, my dear Rust Belt brother, the captain of our ship, and I really need to just study with you, I think. I think I've decided that I just need to study with you. Folks, just understand, Nick really knows what he's talking about. I'm just here for some laughs. I'm hoping to entertain you as we go along this path. That's all.
Nick Bakay (1:46)
I think you underestimate yourself, Billy. I have had a good start this year.
We'll see what happens when the deal is done. Yeah, man, I'm on a roller, five for five winning weeks. I actually went on money moves with six player props for the Monday Night Rams-Bills game, five and one on my player props.
SPEAKER_2 (2:06)
Five and one.
Nick Bakay (2:07)
It's good. Five and one.
It came close on six. The only thing that fell short was Devonte Adams over 60 yards this evening.
SPEAKER_2 (2:17)
But when I watched the Monday night.
Nick Bakay (2:19)
Always a player props friend. I will say that.
Billy Gardell (2:22)
Yes. But what killed me was I had I had a five team tease because I'm insane and I had hit all four on Sunday, had the Rams plus two and a half and then Mevis comes out looking like the abominable snowman from the island of misfit boys and just kicks a duck. I just shut the TV off.
Nick Bakay (2:41)
I know. I got to tell you, we talked about it because I was like, man, I kind of like this. Yeah, I know.
I like that old school bad body kicker, but he's looking for work this morning.
Billy Gardell (2:54)
That's a great sentence, bad body kicker.
Nick Bakay (2:56)
When he tried it out there, I love Michelin man. He tried it out there for that kick. I looked at him. I thought, boy, that's where prosciutto comes from.
I'm allowed to say that because I've got some prosciutto, believe me. But I'll tell you, I thought, we got a shot at this. I don't know that this guy's a lock. Look at him. It's a sweaty kind of kick thing happening here.
Billy Gardell (3:22)
Dude, when he lined up to kick the field goal, he's standing all straight and then he like twists his back and then straightens up again. I'm like, dude, what are you stretching? Stop it.
You're going to hurt yourself before you even make the kick. What are you doing? You're going to bust an L4. That's what's going to go on with you. Awful.
Nick Bakay (3:40)
Absolutely. He looked like me after I tie my shoes. I'm going to go, okay, let's limber that back up.
It's not pretty. Well, I'm going to tell you that we're going to do something special here. Given that I'm on a heater, I'm going to reach back into the way back, Machine Guard Dowell and bring back one of my old ESPN departments, immortalized right here in the Hyperion ESPN book, Nick Bakay's Tale of the Tape. Look at that hair. If that doesn't date when this book was out, which by the way, this book for a while was required reading and correctional institutions. So, you know, we're working.
Billy Gardell (4:14)
I tell my son, I tell my son, I tell my son daily, enjoy your bangs, son, enjoy your bangs. Oh, right.
