Lack A Version. With Abbey and Tyrone. Before Lack A Version and after Lack A Version is kind of the anchor point of an Australian musician's life, I think.

SPEAKER_3 (0:22)

Pretty intimidating song, like you hear it, and it sounds like the uncoverable.

SPEAKER_2 (0:28)

The verses are great. They're so well written and they make me feel really sexy when I'm singing them.

SPEAKER_1 (0:33)

Like A Version on Triple J.

Avi (0:35)

That's right, we are doing Like A Version on your Friday morning. Avi and Tyrone with you here on Triple J Breakfast and joining us in the studio, they are the Melbourne-based band with their third album, Smile You're On Camera. On the way, we've got Liam, we've got Indy from Windwaker. Guys, welcome to the Triple J studios. How are we feeling?

Liam (0:50)

I'm feeling good, feeling great.

Indy (0:52)

Yeah, I'm feeling fresh.

Avi (0:53)

Feeling fresh. I mean, first time doing Like A Version. Are we nervous? Are we excited? Bit of both.

Liam (0:59)

Very nervous. It's definitely a big opportunity for us and a bucket list thing to do as a band. So I'm feeling nervous, but also feeling good as well.

Indy (1:11)

Yeah, we've been wanting to do this for ages. So it's one of those absolute bucket ticks. But yeah, I like to think of it more as excitement. Yeah.

Tyrone (1:19)

So channel the nerves into the excitement. Also, you're nervous because you want to do a good job. Yes, we care about this. And we're so excited to hear both your cover and original to come very soon. But we need to bring up the fact that we were just in Griffith. And whilst you are Melbourne-based, Indy, you're actually from River Inn. You're from Wagga.

Indy (1:37)

I'm from Wagga, yeah.

Avi (1:38)

I got family in Griffith.

Tyrone (1:39)

And you got family in Griffith?

Indy (1:41)

Yeah, a lot of family.

Tyrone (1:42)

I mean, hey, stunning place.

Indy (1:44)

Yeah. It's beautiful. It's very orange. The soil, yeah. It's good for farming.

That's the main thing.

Avi (1:50)

What do you love most about being from that part of the country?

Indy (1:54)

I just love how beautiful it is out there. I go back a lot just to get a break from the city and to feel calm because it's so quiet. You always forget how quiet it is in the country, and then you go back and you spend a night, and it's really dark, and it's really quiet, and it's so good for the soul.

But I think the people that come from the country are really down to earth and beautiful as well.

Liam (2:16)

We love playing shows there.

Indy (2:17)

We love playing shows out there too, yeah.

Tyrone (2:19)

And you can see the stars out there is one thing I noticed, you know, less light pollution.

Indy (2:23)

You can't.

SPEAKER_2 (2:24)

You can see the stars.

Tyrone (2:25)

It's really good to sit into it. Windwaker in the studio with us right now, I also just read somewhere, can you confirm or deny it, but your name is from Zelda? Is that right?

Liam (2:35)

Yeah, it was named after a Zelda game.

Indy (2:36)

Or is that just a coincidence? No, that's one of those things that you do and you think it's a great idea, and then you slowly over the years, you're like, oh, we got to, yeah, this is something we have to deal with on the side.

Liam (2:47)

How long were you guys, did you guys, you guys literally locked yourselves in the room when you were deciding your name? How long were you in the room for?

Indy (2:55)

Yeah, I think any band has troubles with their names. Or maybe that was just us. We took like six hours, we just were like, we're not leaving this room until we have a name. And then someone said Windwaker at one point because they'd been playing Legend of Zelda Windwaker.

And yeah, we were just like, that sounds good. He said perfect. Let's go with that.

Avi (3:11)

I was watching actually some of your footage from Good Things last year. And specifically that point in the crowd, speaking of the band name where everyone's got like the W up with their hands. Is that just the best thing you've ever seen?

Indy (3:22)

I said to Liam, Liam came up with that and I was like, this is the best idea you've ever had in your life.

Liam (3:29)

And then actually we watched Weezer play Good Things later on that evening. And they also were doing a W symbol.

Indy (3:38)
