Will Chris Getz sign a STARTER for the Chicago White Sox this offseason? I CHGO White Sox Podcast

CHGO Chicago White Sox Podcast

October 15, 2026

Chicago White Sox General Manager, Chris Getz addressed the media yesterday after the 2026 season has come to an end. After a postseason, where Sean Burke was the only pitcher who was trusted to "start" a game, does Getz look to sign a starter? Would Michael King be a perfect fit for the Sox?

Hey, yo, welcome to the CHGO White Sox Podcast, coming to you live from Studio West of our West Loop offices here in the downtown of Chicago. I'm your host, Sean Anderson. Alongside me, producer Joey Christopoulos.

Joey Christopoulos (0:19)

What's up, Sean?

Sean Anderson (0:19)

I wanted to give you some time to get to the mic if you wanted to say something, you don't have to.

Joey Christopoulos (0:22)

I'm off to a great start.

Sean Anderson (0:24)

You are off to a great start, you're killing it. Hit that thumbs up button if you haven't already. Make sure you subscribe to the CHGO Sports YouTube channel. You're coming off the smash in Pumpkins High, you're still wearing the tee. I mean, come on, it's a little foggy.

Joey Christopoulos (0:34)

Well, a little melancholy in the infinite sadness that the baseball season is over.

And therefore, it's a reference. We'll swing in a miss early.

Sean Anderson (0:42)

I feel like you're whispering and I can't even hear you.

Joey Christopoulos (0:44)

Oh, really? OK, I'm just making sure my levels aren't too hot. So making sure the levels aren't too hot.

Sean Anderson (0:49)

Oh, I hear that. But just just in a situation, it's tough to go back and forth banter wise when I am deaf. All right. Let's talk about our friends. Chris Getz, he spoke to the media yesterday. This show is mainly me going to be playing little clips off the soundboard. This is basically a clip show. But I did see a decent amount of people being like, I want to listen to this. Got the audio.

I don't know if I can upload it in full, but I could chop it up and try to bring it to you the way that I can. So hopefully this is enough listening to Chris Getz for you. Hopefully it's not too much listening to Chris Getz for you. But we will talk in this entire show about acquiring pitching, how they will go and do that. Will it be via free agent? Will it be via trade? And where we're going to start off first is honestly him talking, Chris Getz, about the playoff experience gained by this core against the Guardians, albeit a deflating loss.

Chris Getz (1:47)

Obviously to come up short stings and is painful.

You know, I think more than anything, I think about, you know, the emotions of playing in those critical moments. And I think, you know, some of our players, you know, they responded really well. And then there were times where, you know, I think they got sped up a little bit. And so to really learn from having to regulate those emotions on that stage, I think is only going to serve them well. But we don't get this opportunity to make those adjustments without experience in it.

Sean Anderson (2:24)

And that is Chris Getz, you know, experience the playoffs. And I agree with him a ton, you know. It didn't seem like in game three, four and five that the White Sox lost talent and that Derek Showman was going out there and being like, you know what, guys, may sound a little backwards, but I think we should go out there and strike out 57 times. I know, I know it doesn't sound right, but I think this is what we're going to do. Game five, season's on the line, guys, we're going to go out there, we're going to whiff at 48% of the pitches. It just felt like the heartbeat was beating way too fast for the White Sox. It felt like they all wanted to hit that game-winning home run in the second inning. And while the White Sox weren't unable to perform, it does feel like Chris Getz has the feeling that this team did overperform and that even though they got to a very crucial place and missed out on the opportunity to possibly win the championship, maybe go to the ALCS, maybe go to the World Series, still, this is a team that overperformed, overperformed against the Astros, and had a 2-0 series lead. They were unable to get the job done, and it's mainly because the lack of experience before this year, but now you do gain valuable, valuable playoff experience against the Guardians, albeit heartbreaking and depressing, and makes you want to crawl into a hole and die.

Scorpio saying, hello, Sean, happy Thursday. Happy Thursday. Let's talk a little bit more about the playoff teams.

There was one question to Chris about emulating playoff teams and trying to take what you can from the Guardians, the Rays, the Dodgers, and the Brewers. Here's Chris Getz.
