So today, we're at VidCon, the biggest creator conference in the world. And there's a lot of YouTubers, all kinds of sizes, that will come today to get a channel audit. And we have today Jonathan and Ollie, two of the smartest strategists in the world. And we're gonna see exactly what's the thought process to, yeah, to help a channel get an idea, a title, a thumbnail idea, and basically how to blog on YouTube.
**Ollie** (0:26)
So what is the channel name? What's it about?
**Jonathan** (0:29)
My channel name is Soup Timmy. I make videos about Rubik's cubes.
**Ollie** (0:33)
What is your ideation? What does your ideation process look like? How do you come up with ideas?
**Jonathan** (0:36)
Yeah, I take a shower and I'm like, that's a banger idea. In the mornings, I will use random word generator and force myself to come up with an idea with that word or related to that word.
**Ollie** (0:47)
OG Mr. Beast method.
**Jonathan** (0:48)
Yeah, and I think it helps me get the dirty water out and find one banger gold nugget idea.
**Ollie** (0:55)
Ed Sheeran reference. Yeah, well, that's the same analogy he uses. When he's songwriting, he goes, I gotta get the dirty water out.
**Jonathan** (1:01)
Yeah. Yeah.
**Ollie** (1:02)
What's like your backlog looking like for like just... How many are you writing?
**Jonathan** (1:06)
Oh, I have five videos I'm writing right now.
**Ollie** (1:09)
Okay, cool. When it comes to like ideation, like how many videos are you writing that you're kind of like half and now you might... Yeah.
**Jonathan** (1:17)
Like I try to work on like three at a time, but right now I got five to work on.
**Ollie** (1:22)
Yeah.
**Jonathan** (1:23)
So it's more than usual, usually it's just like three or two.
**Ollie** (1:26)
I was just wondering, like, have you done like a Tmoo or Amazon video, something about that yet?
**Jonathan** (1:32)
No, but the buying return Rubik's Cube video, the reason why there's nothing like... That's why that's very interesting. There's no different Rubik's Cube. Same thing with Tmoo or Amazon. So it's pretty much the same thing. It's just packaged probably differently. Every single. So which is why I haven't done a Tmoo video. Unless Amazon wants to sponsor a Rubik's Cube video, let me know.
And we can package a video for Amazon.
**Ollie** (1:55)
Where I spent it a cubing. So there are dedicated cubing stores?
**Jonathan** (1:59)
Yeah, there's only two in the USA. That is like two big ones, two main ones.
**Ollie** (2:03)
Have you ever done a challenge where you can't leave somewhere until you do like X number of Rubik's Cubes challenges or something like that? Like essentially a last to leave type thing?
**Jonathan** (2:16)
Last to leave? No, not in that direct aspect, no.
I have a video where I'm filming a one by one Rubik's Cube 21 by 21
**Ollie** (2:23)
That's a really cool sense of progression.
**SPEAKER_4** (2:25)
Yeah, I like that.
**Ollie** (2:26)
But like a one by one, it's not really solved, is it? Like it's just there?
**Jonathan** (2:29)
This is funny.
**Ollie** (2:30)
I'm assuming that you're like very professional and very competitive on like a global scale when it comes to solving Rubik's Cubes.
**Jonathan** (2:36)
I'm not the fastest in the States, no, but I are considerably fast, but not fast enough to win like a major championship.
**Ollie** (2:42)
Sure, sure.
**Jonathan** (2:43)
Yeah, same. I look at Sambucha, Jesser sometimes.
**SPEAKER_4** (2:46)
So what do you think of this idea?
**Jonathan** (2:48)
Which idea? Mike Schafer?
**SPEAKER_6** (2:49)
Something like this. So have you done a video where you basically try and solve every single Rubik's Cube you've ever solved in the past? So you like, you basically stay in one sitting, you have to go from like the one by one, or every Rubik's Cube on your channel ever.
**Jonathan** (3:02)
After solving all the Rubik's Cubes I have solved on my channel?
**SPEAKER_6** (3:06)
In one video, yeah.
**Jonathan** (3:07)
Oh, I've not done that, no.
**SPEAKER_6** (3:09)
And that could be interesting. You could have like a banger thumbnail with like, just like a ton of like Rubik's Cubes behind you. And yeah, I mean, you just have to solve for...
**Jonathan** (3:17)
What would the packaging be for a title? Yeah, because I like the idea. I think it's just a lengthy title.
**SPEAKER_6** (3:22)
I think there is, I think there will be a title that would work.
**Jonathan** (3:24)
Yeah.
**SPEAKER_6** (3:25)
I just, I just can't, it's a lot of ideas.
**Ollie** (3:28)
Can you repeat the idea one more time in the way that you just did?
