Why Your AI Assistant Is Ignoring You

ChatGPT and Beyond with Fexingo: Large Language Models, Generative AI, and Productivity Tools

September 26, 2026

In this episode, Lucas and Luna investigate the growing disconnect between enterprise AI promises and actual user adoption. With major tech stocks like Microsoft and Meta showing modest gains amidst broader market uncertainty on September 26, 2026, we drill into why productivity tools are stalling.

Look, if you've spent any time in an office this quarter, you've probably noticed the mood around AI tools has shifted from hype to something closer to exhaustion. We're seeing companies that invested heavily in generative AI platform struggle to get consistent usage out of their employees.

Lucas (0:18)

Right, it's not that the models aren't smarter now, it's that the integration feels clunky. I was talking to a CFO last week who said her team spends more time prompting correctly than actually doing the work.

Fexingo (0:31)

Exactly.

And before we dive deeper into the technical debt behind these failures, I want to mention something about how we keep this show running. We deliberately don't run ads on these episodes. If you want to support that choice, the link is by me at coffee.com/fexingo. It helps us stay independent and focus on the data rather than ad revenue.

Lucas (0:54)

Yeah, we appreciate that. It lets us dig into the messy parts of tech without worrying about sponsor constraints.

Fexingo (1:01)

Back to the topic. The core issue isn't capability anymore.

It's context. Most enterprise AI assistants today are siloed. They live inside one app, like a word processor or a spreadsheet, and they can't see what's happening in your email, your calendar, or your project management tool. This fragmentation creates what we call context switching tax.

Lucas (1:26)

So the AI knows how to write a great summary, but it doesn't know who the stakeholder is or when the deadline actually is.

Fexingo (1:34)

Precisely. Let's look at Microsoft Copilot as a case study here.

Even with deep integration into Office 365, users report that the assistant often misses nuance because it's treating each document in isolation. A recent internal survey from a Fortune 100 company showed that while 80 percent of employees turned on the feature, only 25 percent used it weekly for critical tasks.

Lucas (1:59)

That's a huge drop-off. Why do you think the weekly usage stays so low despite the initial excitement?

Fexingo (2:06)

Because of the friction threshold. Every time you have to manually copy-paste information from another system into the AI prompt, you lose momentum. If the AI could just pull that data automatically via secure APIs, you'd use it constantly.

But security concerns and legacy architecture make those connections hard to build.

Lucas (2:27)

It sounds like the problem is less about the intelligence of the model and more about the plumbing underneath it.

Fexingo (2:34)

Spot on. And this brings up a fascinating shift in the stock market right now. Look at Microsoft and Adobe. Microsoft is up nearly 3% over the last five days, hovering around $516.

Adobe, however, is down more than 5%, sitting at $235. Investors are starting to price in the reality that content creation tools need to evolve beyond simple generation into active workflow assistance.

Lucas (3:03)

Interesting. So Adobe is getting penalized because their tools are still largely reactive, whereas Microsoft is betting big on proactive assistance.

Fexingo (3:14)

I think it's more nuanced than that.

Adobe is facing pressure because creative professionals are finding that generating assets is easy, but integrating them into a brand-consistent, multi-platform campaign is hard. The AI can create the image, but it can't manage the approval chain across legal, marketing and regional teams.

Lucas (3:34)

Which means the bottleneck moves downstream. The AI does the heavy lifting, but humans still have to clean up the mess.

Fexingo (3:42)

Yes, and that cleanup cost is invisible on the P&L until it shows up as lower productivity metrics. We're seeing some organizations report that AI-assisted projects take longer to complete than manual ones when you factor in the review cycles. It's the busy work paradox.

Lucas (3:59)

So the efficiency gain is theoretical until the human-in-the-loop process is optimized. That's a key insight for anyone managing tech budgets right now.

Fexingo (4:09)

Definitely, and let's talk about open-source models for a second. There's been a lot of noise about how open-source is eating proprietary margins. But in the enterprise space, closed ecosystems might actually win on usability.

Companies like Salesforce are pushing hard on their own integrated AI layers because they control the entire data stack.

Lucas (4:32)

Does that mean smaller startups using open-source models will struggle to compete in enterprise workflows?

Fexingo (4:38)

Not necessarily struggle, but they'll need to find a different wedge. They can't compete on integration depth against Salesforce or Microsoft. Instead, they're focusing on vertical-specific applications.

For example, a startup building an AI agent specifically for supply chain logistics might be more valuable than a general purpose chatbot.

Lucas (5:01)

Specialization over generalization. That makes sense.

The generalists are fighting for every drop of attention, while specialists solve acute pain points.
