Why Riches Can’t Buy Salvation | Matthew 19:21–30 Sermon | Feast of Trumpets

At the end of service today, Cam will talk a little bit more about it at the end of service today. Those who have a desire to, we will be opening up the other building on the other side. There's a bunch of Sharpies sitting in there on drywall. And having you guys go write scripture verses of prayer, a blessing of some sort on the cinder block walls. It is a construction zone if you didn't notice when you came in. So even though we've cleaned up some of the tools and we've gotten some of the nail guns and stuff like that out of the way, if you have children, please pay attention to what's happening. I'm going to say right now it's on YouTube, so that way I can come back to it when Michael needs to defend me in the future. You will enter at your own risk. You will enter at the own risk of your children. It is an unsupervised area. You will enter at your own risk. Is it four or five times I have to say it on camera that I've covered my basis to make sure that the intent is well qualified? You will enter at your own risk. And so all the tools are up. If your kids are with you, they will be safe. But it is a time for us to go to write on the walls, to put scripture up there, to put a blessing, whatever it is that you want. The cinder block walls will end up having drywall glued to it. So the scripture will be on the actual most solid part of that building. The cinder block walls are the structural walls of that facility. And so we felt it was the right place to put on the structure, the bones of that house, a blessing or a scripture from God. And so just like we've done here, if you're new, I see a lot of new people this week. We are about as unorthodox as humanly possible. Yes, this is not my real hair. It is a little clip on I got from Amazon. I got Brent one too. He just refuses to wear it. That's a joke. It is my real hair. But we do things a little bit differently here. We love the whole Bible. We love Genesis to Revelation. We love Yeshua. But in the end, we will never apologize that there is only one way to the Father and that's through Yeshua. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Spirit hovered over the water in Genesis to work in to creation with the Father and with Jesus. And we believe in writing on the walls and allowing your kids to write on the walls and all of the things that I told them they could do here, but they better not do at your house. And this helps us remind ourselves of who we are. We are on a journey to become more like our king. We are on a journey to have our hearts and our minds renewed to be like Christ. That's not something that we can do. It's not something that we have the power to do. It's something that God does in each and every one of us. We are a family church. If a kid cries, that's okay. If you're old and you cry, come see Brent after church. We want you to feel welcome here. Wherever you're at on your journey, and there's a lot of people at a lot of different spots on their journey here. And all of our years of traveling, my wife and I have not met a church quite like us. And so, that might be a good thing. That might be a bad thing. It's okay. Not every church is for everybody. That's why it's a blessing to be in America, where there's one on literally every street corner that exists. So, I am Chris. I am the senior pastor here. And we're going to pick right up with the Rich Young Ruler. Last week, we started in Matthew 19 Starting, we concluded in verse 20 with the first half of the Rich Young Ruler. We saw the irony of him coming to Jesus in a day and age where there was two schools of thought. In Judaism, there was the House of Hallel and the House of Shemai. They taught very differently in the interpretation of this whore at that time. One was ironically more conservative, one was more progressive in how they applied those things. And so when this Rich Young Ruler is coming to ask Jesus, he's coming because there's already two schools of thought. He wants to know, Jesus, are you in Hallel? Are you in Shemai? Or do you have a different interpretation? Which would have been really unheard of at that time. Those were the two main schools of thought. And so, he goes, what else should I do? When Jesus says, keep the commandments and love your neighbor in Leviticus 19, 18 What else should I do? And we found one of the biggest issues in every human heart. What else should we do? What else is there to please? Chris, we spent the entire day together. We had a great day, but is it sufficient for our relationship to maintain with each other? I pleased my wife because I did the dishes and I swept the floor, and she got to take a nap, and I set out meat for dinner. But what else do I need to do to make sure she's happy? The American culture, which stems from the worldly culture, always says there's something more. We live in a culture that exists to tell you there is something more, always something more. And so we've come to a place where we can never really be at peace or satisfied.
