This episode is presented by VAER Watches. Go to vaerwatches.com/theteamhouse. It's gonna be hard to redo it in a way that's like...

Jack Murphy (0:12)

Well, the one I had was like the size of a grapefruit. It was gigantic, like literally it was round. And it was not a flat sandwich, it was a round. There was so much, it was probably like a pound, or almost a pound of roast beef in this thing. It was insane.

Jonathan Hackett (0:24)

We're talking about cat's bitters. We got roast beef and not pastrami.

Jack Murphy (0:27)

So they had pastrami, roast beef, ruban, turkey, there was a gluten-free and a vegan one that I ignored and just got the main sandwich. It was delicious.

Jonathan Hackett (0:37)

I mean, the corn beef is not like bad or anything like that, but at cat's, you've got to get the pastrami. Like, that's the thing. Yeah.

Jack Murphy (0:44)

I had the pastrami last week. They keep bringing this stuff up here to school.

Dee Takos (0:47)

Shit, every week, huh? That's pretty sick.

Jonathan Hackett (0:48)

Yeah.

Jack Murphy (0:49)

This time it was Jane Street that was doing the talking, so they had to bring the sandwiches.

Jonathan Hackett (0:54)

That's pretty good, man, because I go to these academic events a lot of times, and the folks from the UK tell me that when they have them over there, everyone's getting drunk on wine afterwards.

Dee Takos (1:04)

Yeah, same, same.

Jonathan Hackett (1:05)

We're in the United States, and there's nothing. There's no refreshments, there's no food, nothing.

Jack Murphy (1:11)

It's the Stoic tradition like Mick has, you know?

Dee Takos (1:13)

Yeah, yeah. Just suffer in silence, basically.

Jonathan Hackett (1:16)

Exactly.

Jack Murphy (1:17)

Yeah, like live on the street and just think about philosophy.

Dee Takos (1:19)

Yeah.

Jonathan Hackett (1:21)

Like Diogenes living in a clay jar on the side of the street in the Agora.

Jack Murphy (1:28)

Speaking of the Agora and philosophers, that's us, what we're doing right now.

Dee Takos (1:31)

Exactly.

I will shout out one place in Brooklyn called Schelsky's on Court Street. They make incredible pastrami. It's like you don't even need teeth to eat the sandwich, like it just melts in your mouth. But Katz is incredible.

Jonathan Hackett (1:46)

Katz is the best. I'll try that place, D, next time I'm down there in Schelsky's.

Dee Takos (1:50)

Schelsky's is really good. No, it's not. It's down to, it's like Cobble Hill.

Jonathan Hackett (1:53)

Oh, no shit. Okay. Barney Greengrass on the Upper West Side is also very good.

Dee Takos (2:00)

No, I haven't heard of that.

Jonathan Hackett (2:02)

Yeah, they've been there forever.

Dee Takos (2:06)

Every time I go, like if I'm driving by Katz, it's always like chaos. It's always like lines are massive.

Jonathan Hackett (2:11)

Yeah, it is.

Dee Takos (2:12)

You have to try and get in there like it's a perfect time where it's not as like packed. Guys, we're back Eyes On Geopolitics and Eyes On Pastrami. We're going to start another podcast called Eyes On Pastrami. Yeah, it's teeth optional.

I try to go live. It doesn't work and I'm not going to troubleshoot it, so whatever.

There's a lot of shit happening. Jack, you go ahead. You're smart.

Jonathan Hackett (2:44)

Well, you put it all on me. I don't know what's going on. How about this? This last week, there was an attempted aircraft hijacking.

It was fly Dubai, right?

Dee Takos (2:56)

Yeah, we talked about that.

Jonathan Hackett (2:57)

I mean, that's kind of interesting because we haven't really seen hijackings in a long time.

You know, they started really in the 1970s and then we increased airport security and airline security and that kind of stopped the hostage taking and that kind of stupid stuff mitigated a lot of it. And then, of course, 9-11 happened where they kind of flipped the script where we're not having political demands anymore, we're just murdering everyone. And obviously, you know, we drastically increased airport security after that. And since then, like, when was the last time you really heard about an aircraft hijacking? I'm sure there have been some in other parts of the world.

Dee Takos (3:36)

John's got them listed in his head, he already knows.

Jack Murphy (3:38)

Yeah, there was one in Germany 11 years ago.

Dee Takos (3:41)

That was the last one?

Jack Murphy (3:42)

Yeah, but the thing is, like, when we look at who is doing these things, look how much security we put at the gate for passengers, you know, multi-billion dollar effort, and how little we put on the pilots. And there's a lot of trust in the pilots. And, I mean, the pilots generally are doing fine. There's actually a very interesting study highlighted in one of Malcolm Gladwell's books. I can't remember which one it was, maybe What the Dogs Are, one of them, about when a pilot will commit suicide with an aircraft, suicide by pilot.
