Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Deep Dive. Bitcoin is back above $80,000. Ethereum is moving. Altcoins are suddenly lighting up across the board. And perhaps the most interesting thing about this rally is not simply how far prices have moved. It's when they have decided to move. Because think about what the crypto market has just been through. The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates. The Clarity Act has suffered another setback. Treasury yields remain elevated. The traditional risk environment is hardly screaming buy everything. And yet, instead of Bitcoin collapsing under the weight of all of that, buyers have stepped back in. So today, we need to answer one very important question. Why the hell is crypto going through the roof? Is this simply another relief rally that will eventually be sold? Or are we witnessing something much more significant? A market that has finally absorbed the bad news, exhausted the sellers and started positioning itself for the next major move? Because several analysts are now pointing towards exactly that possibility. And there are some extremely important levels approaching that could tell us which side is right.
First, forget the green candles for a moment. The context matters more. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate target by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75% to 4%.
Normally, tighter monetary policy is not exactly what crypto investors want to hear.
Higher interest rates increase the attractiveness of yield-bearing assets and increase the cost of capital across the economy. Then add the latest problems surrounding crypto legislation in Washington. Add elevated treasury yields. Add uncertainty surrounding inflation.
You would have had plenty of reasons to expect Bitcoin to struggle. But it didn't. Bitcoin absorbed it and then started climbing. That is why blockware analyst Mitchell Askew has raised an interesting possibility. Seller exhaustion. The basic argument is straightforward. Investors who are going to sell Bitcoin because of the Fed, regulation or the wider macro environment may have already done so. Eventually you reach a point where another negative headline simply cannot generate the same amount of selling. That doesn't automatically mean the bottom is in, but it can be one characteristic of a bottoming market. And that distinction is incredibly important. Markets don't necessarily bottom when everything becomes good. They can bottom when things are still bad, but prices stop reacting badly to them.
Think about that. Bad news arrives. The market initially shakes, but instead of cascading lower, buyers appear. Then another piece of bad news arrives, and again, the market holds.
Eventually, the market begins climbing despite the headlines. That is exactly why today's price action deserves attention.
Bitcoin isn't doing this completely alone. There is also evidence of fresh capital returning. US-spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $159 million of net inflows on Thursday.
Now, one day of ETF inflows doesn't create a new bull market. And interestingly, Ethereum ETFs simultaneously experienced net outflows. But it does tell us something. Investors are still prepared to allocate capital to Bitcoin at these prices. And that becomes particularly interesting when combined with another observation from LMAX group strategist Joel Kruger. Kruger argues that Bitcoin has demonstrated considerable resilience despite an extremely difficult macroeconomic environment. His argument is essentially that if Bitcoin can withstand this environment, imagine what could happen if some of those headwinds begin disappearing. Inflation improves. Interest rate expectations become more favorable. Regulatory conditions improve. Geopolitical tensions ease. None of those things are guaranteed. But Bitcoin doesn't necessarily need all of them. If the market has already priced in a significant amount of pessimism, even a modest improvement in the backdrop could potentially have an outsized effect. And that brings us to the number everybody needs to watch. $82,000.
Bitcoin moving through $80,000 obviously looks fantastic on the screen, but we shouldn't confuse a psychologically important round number with confirmation of a breakout.
Analyst Alex Soloviev has highlighted approximately $82,000 as the more important threshold. His argument is that Bitcoin needs to convincingly reclaim that region and, crucially, remain above it. That's the difference between briefly touching a price and establishing a new trading range. If Bitcoin pushes through $82,000 before immediately collapsing back underneath it, traders will naturally question whether we've simply experienced another liquidity-driven rally. But if Bitcoin breaks $82,000, consolidates above it, and buyers continue appearing on pullbacks, the conversation changes considerably. There is another interesting level sitting nearby. Glassnode estimates the average acquisition price of corporate Bitcoin treasury holdings at roughly $80,500.
That doesn't mean $80,500 magically becomes an impenetrable resistance level, but psychologically it matters. A sustained move above that region would put the aggregate corporate treasury cohort back into profit. Suddenly Bitcoin isn't simply recovering. It is moving above the approximate cost basis of one of the most closely watched groups of Bitcoin buyers.
