Who is to blame for the Denver Broncos EMBARRASSING loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1?

DNVR Denver Broncos Podcast

September 15, 2026

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos were embarrassed by the Kansas City Chiefs. What went wrong? Is Davis Webb or Sean Payton more to blame? Why couldn’t Alex Singleton, Talanoa Hufanga and the rest of the Denver Broncos tackle? Why did Kenneth Walker out-rush J.K. Dobbins?

Speakers Ryan Koenigsberg, Zac Stevens, Henry Chisholm, Bennie Fowler

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:05)

Oh, man, welcome in to the DNVR Broncos Post Game Show. RK here, joined by Super Bowl 50 champion, Bennie Fowler and my guy Henry Chisholm to my right.

And boy, we need this one. There are some things that need to be digested, because I don't know if it's just quite hit me yet what we just witnessed.

Zac Stevens (0:35)

You want to start?

Henry Chisholm (0:36)

There are things that need to be digested, and I really hate that I'm the one to digest them.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:40)

I'll say that. It's like digesting a chicken bone.

Henry Chisholm (0:44)

Right. I want to start by saying shout out to everybody in the chat, everybody listening to this later. The fact that you finished all this and thought, I want to keep thinking about the Broncos for an hour.

You're one of us.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:58)

You're one of us.

Bennie Fowler (0:59)

You're going to keep thinking about the Broncos. If you really love this team and you believe in this team, regardless if you're watching us, but we are glad that you are watching this, you're going to be thinking about this for the rest of the week.

Ryan Koenigsberg (1:09)

Yeah. No, that is the life that we have chosen for ourselves. And we do appreciate you if you're with us tonight.

Bennie Fowler (1:17)

I was only laughing to start the show is because that tweet that came out before the game talking about Drew Brees coming back. Somebody said, what about next week?

Ryan Koenigsberg (1:32)

Oh, we have to laugh.

Zac Stevens (1:33)

We only laugh because we can't go plays.

Henry Chisholm (1:35)

Can we throw it like this? Got to be something you could add.

Ryan Koenigsberg (1:38)

We only laugh because we can't cry on camera.

SPEAKER_5 (1:40)

Oh, that is a policy.

Henry Chisholm (1:44)

Spano hates when we cry on camera. Not again.

Ryan Koenigsberg (1:50)

Oh, dude, that was so bad. As is tradition, when the Broncos lose like this, you're allowed to say you're allowed to blame me in the comments. If that makes you feel better.

Henry Chisholm (2:00)

I thought you were going to say we're allowed to say the F word.

Ryan Koenigsberg (2:02)

Shoot. I don't fucking care. All right. So we start like we will start all post game shows throughout the season with our biggest takeaway.

And I'm going to lead off here. No, actually, I'm going to let someone else have this one. Benny, go ahead.

Bennie Fowler (2:22)

My biggest takeaway from the game. Well, my biggest takeaway from week one on the pregame show was just winning up front offense and defense. And I thought the Broncos had the better offensive line and defensive line before the game, and they didn't play like that. So that is my biggest takeaway. The Kansas City Chiefs rushed for 220 yards. Patrick Mahomes coming off an ACL runs for the first touchdown of the season.

I just, yeah, I think up front, they got physically handled.

Kansas City's offensive line and play calling took it to Denver's defensive line. And I felt like Kansas City's defensive line punished the Broncos the entire game. Bo was frustrated, pocket was collapsing, they had them rushing outside the pocket or collapsing or pushing them outside the pocket. So just up front, I thought they did. I thought they got beat handily. What's up?

Ryan Koenigsberg (3:14)

This is an RKU Ruin My Week.

Bennie Fowler (3:17)

They going crazy on you? No, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. No, you're good. Yeah, that's my biggest takeaway. I mean, that's my biggest takeaway from all the week one games, especially for teams that have a lot of, had a lot of promise. And I thought the Broncos got handled up front.

Henry Chisholm (3:32)

Have you ever seen one of those football games where it's a bunch of kids at half time and they play against the mascots?

Bennie Fowler (3:41)

Yeah.

Henry Chisholm (3:42)

And the mascots just grab the kids and just like toss them to the side and like kick them down and all that stuff. That's basically what happened tonight.

Bennie Fowler (3:50)

Yeah.

Henry Chisholm (3:50)

It's like you were just these nice little third graders out there thinking like, Oh, there's miles. So happy to see these big mascots and they just walloped you over and over and over. And you just couldn't do anything about it.

Bennie Fowler (4:03)

Yeah.

Ryan Koenigsberg (4:03)

Somehow that's like more disrespectful than I thought. Anything you could have said.

Henry Chisholm (4:09)

It's true. I know.

Ryan Koenigsberg (4:10)

It's what it felt like.

Henry Chisholm (4:11)
