We are coming to you live from Studio West, Inner West Loop offices here in the downtown of Chicago. I'm your host, Sean Anderson, alongside me producer Chloe Thiel.
Hello? Oh, she isn't on the mic. Okay, I was waiting for you to say hi and then you didn't. Leifon saying B2A after a 14 to 2 Boston Red Sox win over the White Sox. We're going to talk about this game probably as much as I can stomach it. Then I will do my best not to rant and rave. I'll talk more about the trade deadline and how I feel, because I do feel differently in the immediate moments of when Herb and I were reacting, but I still feel a little bit granted for my feelings and my frustration after what didn't happen. It felt like they were close. Beefloaf put out his top five things that he wanted for the White Sox, and they missed out on the number one thing, if you look at it that way, or if they didn't, hey, they missed out on the five thing. And I just, just don't love it. So we'll talk about that all today. If you haven't hit that thumbs up button, make sure you do, make sure you subscribe to the CHGO Sports YouTube channel. I'm wearing the Shepherd football hoodie for a reason, because Brenton Doyle is now a White Sox. He went to Shepherd just like Tyson Bajan. So it just feels fitting that if, you know, a very unknown D2 college has two players in Chicago and one of your co-workers happens to be obsessed with the other one, I guess my whole bit now has to be being obsessed with Brenton Doyle, because Doyle rules. There we go, no delayed sound board today. It's game 112 for the White Sox. First game of a three game series in Boston against the Red Sox. They're 59 and 52 entering today, and it obviously was a very good weekend. The White Sox were able to check off some things from their checklist from the trade deadline. Not everything that this fan specifically wanted, but I can acknowledge they didn't give up anything that made me feel bad. I still think that they have a lot of ammo to possibly add in the off season. Next trade deadline, it's just not now. I have ADHD. I like instant gratification. Davis Martin versus Patrick Sandoval today. The White Sox before today feels like an unbelievable stat.
Fifteen to two, they were outscored by the Red Sox in their first three games. It will be twenty nine to four after today's game. Top one, the first two batters in Chase and Mutataka Murakami were struck out. Vargas draws a two out walk in the process. He did lose a challenge, which is a little bit unnotable at this point, but he ends up losing both challenges today for the Sox. They weren't able to get Miguel Vargas with in after that two out walk. Bottom one, Sogaard with a lead off double. Rafaela hit by a pitch. Abreu flies out. Sogaard goes to third. Then Contreras with an RBI single, one nothing, Boston. It was a very nice pitch from Martin. It was a slider low and away, but Contreras is a pretty good hitter, and he gets the RBI single there. Yoshida with a single. He loads the bases. I know some person specifically reached out and was like, why didn't Braden get to that ball? I think it was just a missile from Yoshida, and he didn't want what happened before.
I can't remember the specific game. I know it was at home where Braden misplayed one of those bounces, and then it rolled all the way to the right field, and it was basin clearing. So I think he wanted to just be more safe and not screw it up for a possible big inning.
Because Caleb Durbin hits a grand slam. It's five-nothing Boston. So pretty much the effect of Braden Montgomery missing that ball if he was a little bit more aggressive. Durbin clears the bases, five-nothing, and then Jaren Duran with a solo homer back-to-back. Durbin and Duran, six-nothing Boston after one. Sox turned two to end the inning. Top two, Colson leads off with an infield single, and then he's doubled off on a pop-up from new White Sox Joey Bart. Bottom two, Martin feels more traffic. Sogaard with a single, Abreu with a one-out walk. Contreras flies out and Doyle with a fantastic play. He throws out Abreu at second. They go back to the replay. It does get overturned because he threw that guy out from kind of that weird nook in center field. Not the immediate nook off the green wall, but there's the nook that goes back to like the 420 sign to where it then juts back out to make room for the bullpen in right field. Kind of in the warning track there. So it wasn't like the deepest thing, probably about 400 feet or something like that.
