Hi, I'm Madigan, and you're listening to Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist, a podcast that explores the world through a personal feminist perspective.
And I am vibrating on caffeine right now. Oh my gosh, I just had to take so many deep breaths because I'm like, you're gonna be stumbling over your words trying to record if you keep this up. So hopefully, this recording goes okay. And I can mellow the fuck out within the next 30 minutes or so.
To start this episode, I want to give a huge shout out and thank you to the one, two, three people that gave me new reviews on Apple Podcasts. So I want to shout out and give love to the username. How are you better today? Dr. Laura Eckhart and Oreo Nkoll. Thank you so much for your five star reviews with your very sweet little messages about why you enjoy the show.
SPEAKER_4 (1:33)
Truthfully, it is so incredibly helpful.
Madigan (1:36)
And also because I've been feeling a bit down, it is very motivating to continue to push myself and push this show to be able to continue.
So thank you so much for all of the public support for the show with these reviews, but also for the support you've shown me more privately, sending me very, very sweet and encouraging messages. I appreciate it so much. And I also appreciate that no one is showing me any pity in these reviews. I so appreciate that you all feel so passionately about me continuing this show.
But I appreciate y'all keeping it cool in the reviews because I don't want any future networks that I work with to make it look like I'm super, super desperate and needy. So you all are making me look good. I appreciate it. Just another reminder, another great thing that you can do to help support the show is to share these episodes on social media or send them via text or WhatsApp or whatever to your friends. And just getting the word out on your own, it truly, truly does help so, so much and all of this outpouring of support. It just feels so good to me. So thank you. Thank you so, so much. I greatly appreciate you.
SPEAKER_4 (2:55)
I just can't say it enough.
Madigan (2:57)
And before we get into the episode, I just wanted to also note that another way that you can support the show is to go over to patreon.com/angryneighborhoodfeminist or click the link in the show notes to join me over there, where you get these episodes early and ad free for just a few bucks a month. I personally think it's a good deal. But at the same time, if you are not financially able to support in that way, that is totally fine. Leaving a review and sharing the episodes on social media is good enough for me. Thank you so much. I'm going to shut up about all of that now and get into these news topics because the news was newsing this week. So I'm actually going to be doing two news episodes. I tried to get a lot of stories in this episode, and then there's one story in particular that I really want to focus on that I'm going to release on Monday. At that point, there could be other things that have happened in the news. So who knows if I'm going to be adding other tidbits as well. But on Monday, I really want to focus on the possibility of a live streamed execution by firing squad. I think it's a really important conversation to have, and I've done a lot of good reading of various articles. I've seen former inmates on Death Row give very insightful interviews, and I really want to focus on that topic. And now let's get into the many, many, many events of this past week. I want to start with something that hits close to home for me, but is also good for everyone in the United States in particular to be aware of. There is an ice surge in Los Angeles, in Southern California, and in the Central Valley of California, as I speak to you all. This began last week, and as few as 45 and as many as 80 people have been arrested so far across Southern California.
And in the Central Valley, they've detained more than 100 farm workers and others since just Monday. This spike comes as Operation Safe California was announced, a 45-day surge by DHS targeting immigrants with and without criminal records, though the operation has not been officially announced by DHS. According to sources who spoke to the Washington Examiner, ICE agents were told to, quote, go after anybody. That's fucking stupid and terrifying. Across Southern California this week, immigrant defense groups are urging people who are vulnerable to arrest by ICE to stay home if possible and make a plan for the care of their loved ones in the event of their arrest, which to me just seems so fucked up.
