Hi, I'm Madigan, and you're listening to Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist, a podcast that explores the world through a personal feminist perspective.

Hello, everyone. Before I get into this week's news topics, I wanted to mention an email that I got this week. And it's such a great example of why I continue to do this show, even when it is so incredibly stressful and time consuming. I got a message from someone through my email, neighborhoodfeminist.gmail.com, talking about how they're working on a masters in women's studies and sociology, and how they've used my episode on Mina, the woman from Afghanistan who created Rawa, or the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, which is a very little known but amazing organization. They have some amazing stories. So if you haven't listened to that episode, definitely go seek that out. But I was so impressed and also had some imposter syndrome, having someone working on a masters in Women's Studies and Sociology reach out saying that, one, they were using me as some sort of resource and going off of what my sources were as well, reading the amazing book that I highly recommend, which is entitled Mina, Heroine of Afghanistan, The Martyr Who Founded Rawa. Seems pretty crazy to me because I am a person with a acting for film degree from a school that I feel like is probably barely accredited. But maybe now that I've been doing this show for eight and a half, almost nine years, I can consider myself some sort of an expert. I don't know. Again, that doesn't feel right. But I'm so touched and honored whenever anyone reaches out to me and wants to have a conversation with me for any of their school projects, or when they tell me that they've listened to an episode for school. It just really warms my heart and it keeps me going. Podcasting can be such an isolating experience, especially since I do this on my own. I don't have a team. I don't have a co-host anymore. And it really feels often like I am just speaking into the void. And just every once in a while, I get a few little responses from people here and there. So getting those reminders that this show has done something to impact other people's lives, really makes me emotional and it warms my heart. It gives me, like I said, massive imposter syndrome. But thank you so much to this person who reached out. I cannot wait to read their work when they're done. And let this be a message to all of you. If you ever want to reach out and talk to me about something for a school project or you want me to read a paper, I've done it so many times and I thoroughly enjoy it and feel truly, truly honored that any of you would think of me as being someone that would be important enough to do something like that. So thank you so much to that person. I'm also just so impressed that she really took to that particular topic because I think it is so important today to continue to speak about the plight of Afghan women, particularly under the rule of the Taliban, which is still going on. Sometimes there's so many terrible things going on in the world that it's hard to focus on everything all at once. So I do appreciate them really honing in that particular topic. All right, with that, let's get into this week's news topics. The first thing I want to get into is a bit of an update on the Nolan Wells case. I spoke about this in a couple of different mini episodes back in July when this tragedy first occurred. Nolan Wells was an 18-year-old black young man from Mississippi, who had been last seen by a group of his white male friends during a Fourth of July party out on Horn Island. Two days later, Nolan's body was found on the shoreline and he was deceased. This caused a media and social media uproar, especially since initially it was reported that there was no evidence of foul play and that Nolan had drowned. And a lot of people had a hard time stomaching this, especially with it being Mississippi, the history of the state, the history of the South, the fact that Nolan was with a whole gaggle of white frat boy looking kids.
