I don't profess to be an expert at Baylor Football, but we definitely want to learn a bit about it. So let's talk about it. What do the Baylor Bears have in store for this 2026 season?
Welcome on into The Auburn Express TV powered by The War Rapport. She got Ike Jones. I am here with my guy Grayson over at Sicum365. Listen, they were the source of all the information I had last year on Baylor. And once again, I will let them be the beacon that leads us towards all truth when it comes to the folks down there in Waco, Texas. Grayson, talk to me a little bit about, really just, let's start with the coach. Let's just start with the coach, okay?
You got another year of Dave Aranda. And a lot of people seem to think, if he doesn't get it done this year, he's gonna be shown the door pretty swiftly. Is that an accurate assessment of what's happening with Dave Aranda right now?
**Grayson** (2:56)
100%.
And I mean, this is one of those situations where, I don't know if Auburn fans were caught up in this at all last year, but Baylor's Athletic Director, Mack Rhodes, was, he had just a crazy, I mean, we don't need to dive into it, but it was just a crazy couple months in there. At the Arizona State game, he ends up leaving, getting fired, gone. And that was a huge change. And honestly, I think most people you talk to around Baylor, I know us, for instance, I firmly believe he would have been fired had Mack Rhodes still been there. And it would have gone after one of these coaches. It was a pretty entertaining coaching cycle, as y'all know. And so, yeah, I think Baylor would have been heavily active in that. And that would have been intriguing because the dominoes that could have fallen, you just never know how these things could have played out. And Baylor is a pretty attractive spot, like have had good recent history in football. So that would have been intriguing. But yeah, I think that that's what would have happened. So because of that, he gets another year.
And I just think I personally think and we've talked about this a lot. I don't think a bowl game saves his job.
**Ike Jones** (4:09)
And that's the next question. What's the number? Like what does he need to get to on the season for him to feel comfortable going into to be the guy next year?
**Grayson** (4:17)
You know, I think that the truth is it all comes down to what does he have to do to bring donors into the equation? Like to bring the belief back, right? Because right now there's not much belief in him being able to do it. He did it one year in 2021 and it was incredible. They won the Big 12 Championship. He was awesome, but since then, it just hasn't been good enough. Like they lose every big game. They've lost far too many games at home. So I truly think that like, how do you gain the fan base back? How do you gain donors back? You got to win the big games. And so for me, I think you're probably looking at a situation where he's probably got, I think he's got to win nine games, honestly, which is like, you know, crazy expectations, because most coaches don't get fired at nine wins. Like, you've seen eight wins a lot, but nine wins, not very often. And their schedule is really intriguing, Ike. And I don't know if you've looked at it at all, but I'm about to pull it up right now. Cause when you get to the last three, wait till you get to their last three games on their schedule.
