What Is The Bible?

Data Over Dogma

February 23, 2026

Most people who talk about the Bible are pretty sure they know what it is they're talking about. But do they? Do you? How sure are you that when you say "the Bible" you're talking about the same thing as the person next to you?

Well, Dan, you and I do quite a bit of traveling. I just got back from a trip. I'm about to head out on another one. And one of the things that I always think about when I'm out on a trip is the fact that I don't get to be in my own bed. I've been staying in some pretty swanky hotels of late. And even at that, I still really look forward to coming home to my Brooklyn Bedding, Sedona Elite, super, super nice mattress.

Dan McClellan (0:28)

Yeah, Brooklyn Bedding hand crafts all of their mattresses in their Arizona factory. If you didn't know that's where Sedona is, I have been to Sedona many times. It's a wonderful, wonderful, gorgeous area. But Brooklyn Bedding has no middlemen, no gimmicks, just top tier quality, honest pricing, real American craftsmanship for a better night's sleep. I have the plank firm Lux, the Cal King, as you are getting tired of me saying. And it is as firm as we could get it. We also have the Glaciotex covers, which help keep us cool because I run hot and I can get pretty sweaty at night. But the Glaciotex covers keep me cool. That's why they offer mattresses for everybody, every sleep style, even in hard to find sizes. So if you're not sure which mattress is right for you, Brooklyn Bedding has a sleep quiz you can take and find your perfect match in under two minutes.

Dan McClellan (2:15)

There are an awful lot of people on social media who just lap that up. They just suckle that garbage from the fetid and swollen teat of this fascist regime, because it makes them feel good about being on the right team.

Dan Beecher (2:30)

Right.

Dan McClellan (2:31)

And I think the point of the Beatitudes is what the world imagines to be the right team and the team that's going to win is the wrong team. Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.

Dan Beecher (2:49)

And I'm Dan Beecher.

Dan McClellan (2:50)

And this is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things today, Dan?

Dan Beecher (3:01)

Things are good. I'm looking forward to this one. We got a lot, it's fun stuff that we're gonna be discussing today. We're gonna be challenging some people out here. Matter of fact, we're going full combat mode in terms of the misinformation out there. You know, you always talk about us combating. And we're gonna get our battle rattle on and really get out into it, because at very least in the second half of the show, we gotta go up against the Department of Homeland Security. So that's gonna be some rough stuff. That'll be a lot of fun. In the first half of the-

Dan McClellan (3:39)

Or the Department of War, if you're nasty.

Dan Beecher (3:41)

And they are.

Dan McClellan (3:43)

And they are very nasty.

Dan Beecher (3:44)

But no, this is just DHS mostly. Anyway, we'll get to it. Before that, though, we're gonna do a What's That? And it's sort of maybe the biggest What's That? We have.

Dan McClellan (3:58)

It's a doozy.

Dan Beecher (3:59)

For this show. Because it's going to be, what's that, the Bible? So that's a big one. So maybe we should just dive right in to What's That?

So, Dan, what is that? The Bible.

Dan McClellan (4:23)

The Bible. Yes, this is the big one. And kind of the thesis statement of this What is That? Is that there is no such thing as the Bible.

Dan Beecher (4:36)

How dare you, sir.

Dan McClellan (4:39)

I dare.

Dan Beecher (4:40)

This is coming from a guy who wrote a book called The Bible Says So.

Dan McClellan (4:44)

Yes, and where I went in and said, first, there's no such thing in the Bible, and second, there's no such thing as the Bible saying anything at all. And I was like, look, I didn't come up with the title, the publisher said, you gotta call it so.
