Hello everybody, welcome back to the show. My guest today is Dr. Phill McGraw. He's a television personality, author, psychologist and a podcaster. School is supposed to prepare young people for the big wide world, not just with knowledge, but also with life skills. Given that youth mental health is at an all time low, while reading and maths abilities are hugely behind, what is actually happening inside modern schools? Expect to learn why the education system is so broken, who is designing the downfall of society, the problem with inclusive language, what role the algorithm has on our worldview, why there is an attack on family values, Doctor Phil's principles to take back control and much more. My ability to focus and get in the zone is critical for everything that I do, but it isn't always easy, which is why I've partnered with Brain FM, a science-backed music app specifically made to help you focus. If you're listening to Drake or Dua Lipa while working, you might think that getting in the zone, in reality, most music is made to hijack your attention, making it harder to think and work at the same time. Brain FM uses gentle rhythmic pulses that are scientifically proven to support sustained attention all while blending into the background, so you can actually focus distraction-free. They also have sleep sounds to help with deep sleep, which has been a game changer, especially if you are traveling and you are somewhere that is allowed. Brain FM has made a real difference in my productivity and sleep quality, and you can try it out for yourself and get a full month for free right now by going to brain.fm slash Modern Wisdom. That's brain.fm slash Modern Wisdom to get 30 days of completely free access. This episode is brought to you by Gymshark. It seems like you're throwing yourself into the thick of it here. You're pushing back against a lot of ideas that are very popular in your industry of mainstream media. Does it feel like a bit of a war zone?

Sometimes it does. It seems like the more common sensical I get, the more I rattle people's cages, but that's okay, I'm used to it.

I saw a study recently of Illinois public schools in 2022 that found zero students passed the state math proficiency test at 53 public schools, almost all of whom are majority black, and at one school, which is a prep school designed to prepare students for their medical careers, the per student spending is $47,000.
For reading, it's only 30 schools, and only one out of 10 kids or less can do math at a grade level in 930 schools, which is more than a quarter of all of the schools in the state. What do you think is happening with academia?
