Good morning, everyone. Welcome to We're Talking Sports with Will and Ron. Will's not here today, so I have the the captain's chair, I guess.

But we have a great show for you today. We have Luke Arenas and we have Jeff Saunders. And we're going to be talking all kinds of different sports. Start out with MMA, right?

Luke Arenas (1:19)

Yeah. Yeah.

Luke Arenas (1:20)

We got a good event coming up this weekend. And we had a really good event last weekend, too.

Luke Arenas (1:25)

Yeah.

Luke Arenas (1:25)

Out there in Phoenix.

Ron (1:26)

We'll talk a little bit about that, because you guys went up to Phoenix and checked it out.

Luke Arenas (1:30)

Yeah, it was long.

Whenever we go to those events, we stay for the entire thing. So from the first prelim to the last fight. So we were there from about 10 to about 435 So it takes some time.

Ron (1:44)

It was about six and a half hours?

Luke Arenas (1:45)

About six and a half hours. That's not too bad.

Luke Arenas (1:47)

But it was for the, it was for UFC Noche, so it was the Mexican Independence. So they had all the Mexican fighters, pretty much for almost every fight.

Ron (1:56)

Oh, wow. Okay.

It was good.

Luke Arenas (1:58)

I mean, a lot of times, whenever you have those Mexican fighters, they all scrap. So it was a fun event. Definitely the best fight on it was one of the two unranked people, Tommy McMillan and Marlon Rahiki.

McMillan was fighting out of Phoenix. So he had a lot of hype coming into the fight.

He got knocked down in the second, got right back up, taking punches, taking knees, and then ended up knocking them down in the third round and got the win. So that was probably our favorite fight out of all of them. Yeah. The main event was kind of weird. It was a short notice fight. So it was Gene Silva, which he's ranked like six, or now he's ranked five. But he was supposed to fight Hier Rodriguez. And Hier Rodriguez pulled out, so he was actually fighting an unranked fighter. But he was fighting a Mexican. So they put Jose Delgado on it, which he did a good job for what he could.

Luke Arenas (2:50)

For being unranked, yeah. For being unranked.

Luke Arenas (2:52)

I mean, it was definitely a big step up in competition. He's never fought someone like that. Oh, wow.

But Delgado, he knocked him down in the first round. He was looking good. And then Silva ended up chocking him out in the third round. But I mean, everyone, I didn't think Delgado had a chance. But I mean, he did better than I thought. So I've got to give him that. I know Gene Silva had...

Ron (3:13)

He kind of had nothing to lose, right?

SPEAKER_6 (3:15)

He had nothing to lose.

Luke Arenas (3:16)

He's from Arizona too. He's fighting out of Mesa. So I mean, he was in his hometown, probably like a week and a half notice.

So he just got in there and did his thing. I mean, he did as good as you can ask for.

Ron (3:28)

Wow.

Luke Arenas (3:30)

It was a fun event.

Ron (3:31)

Do you know why the other opponent pulled out?

SPEAKER_7 (3:33)

Did he get hurt or something?

Luke Arenas (3:34)

Yeah. Yeah.

Luke Arenas (3:36)

He's known for pulling out.

Luke Arenas (3:37)

He's.

Luke Arenas (3:38)

Everyone hates that guy.

I mean, half the time, he doesn't fight. So wow, there's there's fighters out there where they're they're literally known for pulling out. They really, you know, have five fights lined up and they only fight two of them. So he's one of those guys. So I kind of can expect that to happen.

Ron (3:55)

OK.

Luke Arenas (3:56)

But this weekend, this weekend should be a good one, too. Yeah.

Ron (3:59)

You said this was a pretty big weekend.

Luke Arenas (4:01)

Pretty good one. You have a rematch for the flyweight title. Joshua Van and Pantoja Van won the title from Pantoja last December, but Pantoja dislocated his elbow. So that's how he won the fight. So he won in about 30 seconds and Pantoja dislocated his elbow.

So a lot of people say, you know, he doesn't deserve the belt, doesn't deserve the win. But he actually did defend his title this this year. So he has a title defense and now he's getting the rematch. Now that Pantoja is healthy. So that'll be a really good one. I mean, Joshua Vann always puts on a show. He's a boxer. He's a little 125 pound boxer.
