Hello, everybody, welcome to the Rotoworld Football Show. It is our Sunday, week five recap. It's October 11th. I said that all out of order.
I also didn't say my name. I'm Patrick Daugherty, joined by, you know, Denny Carter, the man, the myth, the legend, the Patriots and Raiders Observer on Sunday. 62 total points this game surely was a good game.
Oh yeah. It was a good game for Drake May investors, who he's back Denny. Well, he was declared back in week four, but now it's two games. It's a trend. So Denny's going to tell us what went down in Boston. Then I'm going to tell him what went down in Green Bay, which was the Packers throttling the Chicago Bears, maybe a much needed humbling in Denny's opinion for Bears coach Ben Johnson, who had just been looking so smug, Denny's words. But yeah, it turns out you can't just win forever with your numbers, two and three quarterbacks, and Packers desperately needed an impressive performance. They finally got it. But Denny, almost no one was more impressive than the Patriots on Sunday. Yeah. I said Drake May is back. Is that true?
Denny Carter (1:16)
Yeah.
He's doing the Drake May thing from last year where he's just letting it fly.
And the Patriots are protecting him. He has lots of time to operate. And so after watching this game, I looked up basically are the Raiders pressuring quarterbacks? And the answer in short is yes, coming into this week, right? Tenth in pressure rate, fourth in quick pressure rate on the season. So Max Crosby and these other guys, they are pressuring the quarterback. Not today, not today. And this was with an offensive line injury for the Patriots. Will Campbell went down with the knee, did not return. So, but I mean, May just stands back there for five seconds and just tears them apart. And it was deep ball after deep ball after deep ball, Pop Douglas catches one, Kyle Williams catches two, Romeo Dobbs almost comes down with one. I mean, it was just surgical in the way he went about his business today.
Patrick Daugherty (2:16)
And it was a classic good May performance in that he just seems like, I know this isn't real analysis, he almost seems like the kind of quarterback who's better when he doesn't have a true number one, because he just sees the open man and hits them, spreading the ball around to any six players caught at least three passes for the Patriots. Four had at least a gain of 25 yards. I mean, that is just the definition of hitting the open man.
Denny Carter (2:39)
Yeah.
Patrick Daugherty (2:40)
And that could change as soon as week six. AJ Brown, who we do want to come back, who Drake May ultimately does need, is going to really change the chemistry, the both literal and figurative chemistry. Maybe put this return to the test. Is he going to be the fly in the ointment, upset the apple cart, whatever cliche you want, and make Drake May feel like he has to lock on to him. But so that will be interesting.
Two though, AJ Brown is coming back, so it makes it a little difficult to assess what happened with these Patriots pass catchers, which was what, Denny?
Denny Carter (3:12)
Yeah. Like you said, it was just spread out. Excuse me. The only guy who ran consistent routes was Romeo Dobbs, who ran around 40 of 42 drop backs.
Patrick Daugherty (3:23)
He was definitely one of the six who caught at least three passes.
Denny Carter (3:26)
Let me look at this real quick. No, I'm sorry. No, he was not involved at all.
Caught one of five targets for 16 yards, no touchdowns. I will say, Efton Chisholm, the third.
Patrick Daugherty (3:40)
That's the kind of name that would definitely be a third.
Denny Carter (3:41)
I mean, how could it not be? I mean, I would have thought it would be the sixth.
Patrick Daugherty (3:47)
I know. It does sound much more like a great-great-great-great-grandfather. They're like, this guy killed a bunch of people in a zinc mine accident. Back then, they didn't punish you for that kind of thing. Zinc mine. It created generational wealth.
Wow.
Denny Carter (4:01)
Oh man, I'm going to try to move on. It's going to be hard though.
Wow. Yeah, Efton Chisholm. I mean, first of all, the crowd loves this kid. What are you going to do? I mean, they cannot get enough of my guy Efton.
Drake may like some. He played a lot of snaps today and he caught six, let's see, six of eight. I'm sorry, five or six or 57 yards. But yeah, he ran the second most routes. DeMario Douglas caught a touchdown wide open, just standing in the end zone with nobody around them. So that was weird. But he got away with it though.
