Week 3 is here, and we are setting our fantasy football lineups. And today, I'm joined with Julia Papworth to talk about some starts, sits, and then some quarterback and tight end streamers at the end of the show as well. Julia, let's not waste time with all of the introductions. Let's get right into it. David Montgomery is one of your starts of the week going up against Indianapolis. Tell me why.
Julia Papworth (0:30)
Yes, Dave. So, David Montgomery, never an overly sexy name to think about when you're starting running backs, but playing against Indianapolis, you have a pretty good shot. I mean, week one, we saw Derek Henry go up against them, 144 yards, three touchdowns. He was running back one on the week. It was a very high scoring week. He had almost 35 fantasy points. Week two, Ken Walker went up against them, 117 yards on the ground, 61 receiving yards. He was RB2 on the week. It was only about 20 fantasy points. He had a lower scoring week. But now you have Montgomery, who's going out there. He was great on week one against Buffalo, which has another bad rush defense. And look, he wasn't incredibly efficient. He never really seems to be incredibly efficient, but he had the volume. He had 20 carries in week one. He had three touchdowns. And I think you can exploit this matchup against the Colts.
According to NextGen stats, the Colts defense is ranked 31st at rushing versus a light box and 31st against overall rushing efficiency. So that, my friend, is a not good. So I think you can start David Montgomery. You can have a little bit of a bounce back there.
I'm starting him over Kyron against Denver. Like, I have some questions on that. That's a tough matchup. I think Puka is going to push to be back. And I think that is, we see that McVeigh still likes to put out some Blake Quorum. Blake Quorum, Truth or Over here. So that's eventually going to happen, right?
So I would start him there. I'm going to start him over Bucky against Minnesota. That Minnesota defense is a little scary. I was Montgomery, Truth or Coming into this season. And I'm very hopeful that this week will bring me back to feeling especially good about him.
Dave Kluge (2:14)
And I think we got some big clarity coming out of week two. I think a lot of people just see that Montgomery wasn't that involved, it wasn't that productive in week two and are just like terrified. But what I see is that when games are close or when Houston has the lead, they're going to lean on David Montgomery. When they are trailing, we're going to see more Woody Marks, who's going to get these targets. And in this matchup, Houston, three point favorites, we should see them leaning on the run a little bit more like they did in week one. They're playing catch up against Cincinnati. And that is what led to a little bit more Woody Marks in week two than we expected. But yeah, I think in this matchup, it's just that simple. Like if you see a tight spread, if you see Houston as favorites, you start David Montgomery. And like you said, this Indianapolis defense has not been good at stopping the run. So I love that one. And this is, you know, big names when you're saying ahead of Kyron Williams, ahead of Bucky Irving, I don't think it's that crazy because this is a good matchup with a game script that should work in his favor. So love, love, love that call out. Now, before we get into the rest of these names, when I ask you to give that thumbs up on YouTube, there's a reason we ask for it on every single episode because it helps this episode grow, helps this channel grow as well. So we're doing the show every single Thursday, starts, sits and sleepers with a rotating S. Today I'm joined by Julia Papworth, who knows who we'll have on next week.
Actually, Julia, let me ask you real quickly, you don't happen to have any NFL tryouts today, do you? Anything I should know about?
Julia Papworth (3:34)
I don't. You know what? I am waiting for that call from the Niners. It does seem like they just are going through those wide receivers left and right.
So you never know. I might be called up there. It's just right up the coast for me. So we'll see.
Dave Kluge (3:46)
So anyone who watched Tuesday's episode might be saying, wait, I was promised Austin Eckler on Thursday. Well, yes, I did have Austin Eckler booked on Thursday. And then I got a message from him on Tuesday evening saying that he had some unexpected travel come up and then I wake up Wednesday morning to see Austin Eckler is trying out for the Carolina Panthers. So hoping for the best here, hope that he can get that opportunity with the Panthers. And we'll see if we can get him booked for another time this season. But Julia, thank you for stepping in.
