It is one o'clock in the East Coast, but it is five o'clock somewhere. So welcome to Happy Hour. It's Happy Hour, Mo Hassan, Michelle Beadle. I'm Matthew Berry, a friendly neighborhood bartender. We are here once again to get you ready for your Fantasy Football wins.
Big week in the weak world of Fantasy Football. One last game to go, but it was, if you have a healthy fantasy team, please raise your hand.
Michelle Beadle (0:35)
Well, does Drake Maye count? Cause he forgot football?
Matthew Berry (0:38)
Well, apparently I'm an extra from Newsies. What is this?
Michelle Beadle (0:40)
I don't know. I love that movie.
Matthew Berry (0:43)
Oh my God. I don't know.
Michelle Beadle (0:44)
That was a big, that was the big intro to Christian Bale as like a child.
Matthew Berry (0:49)
Oh yeah, exactly.
Michelle Beadle (0:50)
I know.
Matthew Berry (0:50)
And the Batman here. All right.
Michelle Beadle (0:52)
So do you want to start there? Actually, that was a teaser.
Matthew Berry (0:54)
Yeah. So these are the fantasy headlines. Obviously, is it like the, you know, there are tons of star players injured.
Is Drake Maye still a fantasy starter? And my commander is no Jaden. No problem.
Michelle Beadle (1:04)
Let's start with your commanders on.
Matthew Berry (1:06)
Thank you very much.
Michelle Beadle (1:07)
I appreciate that. That was big. I could feel that through the.
Matthew Berry (1:09)
To be clear, Beatle, I've been working on the show for a couple of weeks. That's the first nice thing she said to me.
Michelle Beadle (1:14)
Maybe the last. We will see. Let's start with the injuries.
You want to start with Achane? Yeah, yeah. By the way, there were a lot of big injuries. Some like this one is obviously a season ender. Talk to me about the ramifications of that one.
Matthew Berry (1:27)
Yeah, first off, this one just sucks, right? By the way, De'Von Achane, one of my favorite players in the NFL, friend of the podcast, De'Von Achane, as well. Gigamaggies, Texas A&M.
So the news came out earlier this morning. He is torn in ACL. He will miss the rest of the season.
And so the obvious answer here is like you've got Ollie Gordon. Now people are like, well, what about Jalen Wright? It's Ollie Gordon, right? Well, Jalen Wright was a scratch. He did not play in the game. 87% of the snaps after De'Von Achane left the game, Ollie Gordon played 87% of the snaps. Now, in 20 career games, Ollie Gordon is averaging under three yards of carry. Wright's the more explosive runner, but he's not as efficient. Honestly, what I think this is, both guys can be picked up. We'll talk about more about this tomorrow in the WaverWire show. I prefer Gordon to Wright just because Gordon probably has more touchdown upside. It feels like they'll use him when they get in close. But the truth of the matter is, I think both guys are gonna be a committee. It's gonna be a committee situation on a bad team. And Malik Willis had over 50 yards rushing in this game against the Chiefs. Malik Willis actually looked better, and maybe this means they'll lean on Willis even more. So maybe now this helps Willis' prospects, but it's just brutal for me.
Michelle Beadle (2:46)
I hate season inverse.
Mo Hassan (2:47)
Yeah, I mean speaking of Malik Willis, it's never a good sign when you're starting quarterback is quoting scriptures after week three. I feel like that's kind of when you know it's going downhill.
Michelle Beadle (2:55)
Oh no, it's on the down hill. I didn't see the scripture recoded. He's making deals with the spirits, the divines.
Mo Hassan (3:00)
And probably deservedly so because they lose the one bright spot in a bad team. It's a really young team. They're trying to build from the core with a new coaching staff, new system.
I think it just kind of changes the way the defenses even approach you, right? You can take a guy outside of the box. Now we're going to see some more umbrella coverages, too high looks, really tough for an already struggling passing game. And then you mentioned those two guys by committee. It's just a tough situation all the way around.
Matthew Berry (3:25)
Yeah, I know Caleb Douglas in the game as well. So Chris Bell and Darren Waller, you know, I'm sorry, Waller's a lot of the Panthers. I keep remembering he used to be on the Dolphins, but it was really Chris Bell was the one positive for the Dolphins offensively.
Willis will look better. I mean, when you watch the game, like he was at least throwing the ball downfield. They were taking some shots. They were taking some shots. De'Von Dolphins had a nice big catch. But yeah, this just feels like, this like stays away. Like maybe Willis becomes on the 2QB radar now because they'll lean on him more and his rushing more without Achane, and they'll have to get a little bit more creative. But yeah, I don't think this is one of those where, I got to go get Olly Gordon, I got to go get Jalen Wright because again, I think they're going to split touches, and I don't think it's a particularly good team. So both guys are going to be at the top of the waiver tomorrow. We'll talk about this, but again, I don't think it's a blow all your fab budget kind of thing for either of those guys. So it's just an awful situation.
