DNVR Draft Pod!

Justin Michael (0:06)

We're doing it!

Andrew Mason (0:07)

Let's go baby, live from the corner of Colfax and York and downtown Denver, right above the DNVR Bar. This is the draft pod.

That intro just hits different when we're actually recapping a full week of college football.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:21)

It's unbelievable, this is what I live for.

Andrew Mason (0:23)

It really is. Week zero, let's be honest, it let us down.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:27)

It's week zero, man. Yeah, it is. It's like opening the Christmas present on Christmas Eve. Like you're not going to apologize for opening a bad gift. You still got a gift.

Andrew Mason (0:35)

That's right. It is the PJ's books of the college football season.

Week one, fine. I've got some stuff to talk about. Week two, though, already.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:46)

Let's go, man.

Andrew Mason (0:47)

I mean, we start with the conference slate.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:50)

Yeah.

Andrew Mason (0:51)

It's insane.

Henry Chisholm (0:52)

Yep.

Andrew Mason (0:54)

Full cast, full crew together again.

Ryan Koenigsberg (0:58)

Let's go.

Andrew Mason (0:58)

Look at you guys. We're done with your camp schedules, and thus you can join me for the draft pod. Usual disclaimer, this is the draft pod. This doesn't interfere with any of your normally programmed Broncos content, Buffs content, Rams content. That's all coming at your regular scheduled time from these guys. Bless you. Bless you, Jake.

But yes, we do this every week. So thank you for tuning in. Give us a like. Big hanky from the Broncos beat and the Schwan man from the Buff side with us. And yes, the man, the myth, the legend, Justin Michael joining us in the final segment to give us some picks as well.

Let's start with your insights, Jake. You were at the game that kicked off week one.

Justin Michael (1:48)

Yeah.

Andrew Mason (1:48)

It was a banger. At least the end of the game was.

Justin Michael (1:51)

It was pretty unreal.

Andrew Mason (1:53)

Guys who stood out from a pro standpoint as the Buffs answered all the questions we had coming in, but raised some doubts on the one area we thought we were maybe covered. So an interesting game as it all played out.

Ryan Koenigsberg (2:07)

Yeah. Starting with NFL standouts, I think you got to go with the dude who blocked the kick, Boo Carter.

That guy is different. Yeah. Just moves different. I mean, he was starting out as a nickel at Colorado. Eventually, Coach Pram moves him to the outside. He needs to be better at tackling, I think. Sure. I think he led the team and missed tackles, which is unfortunate, but he obviously makes that freaky impact play, where he just times the snap perfectly, blocks the kick.

He's just different, man. We might be able to see him at offense at some point, but we'll see exactly where he lands at the end of the year. I mean, I'd be interested to see if he gets some snaps at nickel even this week against a much lesser team than Georgia Tech. But I think you start and end with Boo Carter, Randon Fontenet in the secondary as well. Yeah, he was all over. 6'2, 220 pounds at safety, I mean, and just playing all over the field. He was like a fourth linebacker out there for them, was extremely impactful in the run game, wasn't really tested too much in the back end, but had a solid performance overall. The linebackers as well for Colorado, I mean, nothing eye catching, but you got three, I think, Coach Prime called them future pros back there. And honestly, the most impressive guy I thought was someone who's not even draft eligible, was Chauncey Gooden, who played both ways in the trenches.

Andrew Mason (3:32)

Yeah, right guard and nose tackle, is that right? Yes, left guard. Left guard, thank you.

Yeah, that Buffs O-line showed me something. Yeah. That was...

Jeez, I was trying to think about it. And obviously, it's a weak one over reaction, but I don't think I felt this good about a Buffs O-line. I mean, we might be going back to the early 2000s.

Ryan Koenigsberg (4:02)

It's before my time.

Henry Chisholm (4:04)

I mean, 2020 would have a case, the Elm Bowl year. That's when you had Jereck Broussard.

Andrew Mason (4:10)

Yeah.

Henry Chisholm (4:11)

What do you have? 895 and six games, five games. Yeah.

But I think that's the only...

Andrew Mason (4:17)

That was in the mix.

Henry Chisholm (4:19)

season where it felt like it was consistent all the way through.

Andrew Mason (4:22)

Yeah, the O-line in the Ryse season wasn't great as Cepho Lufal being knocked out of like five games that year may suggest.
