**Mikey** (0:00)
This video, 3 million views.
**Aaron** (0:01)
View duration, I think it was like over 50%.
**Mikey** (0:03)
Made, I think, 35, $40,000.
**Richard** (0:06)
Meet Mikey and Aaron, the duo behind Internet City, with over 1.2 million subscribers and 620 million views.
**Mikey** (0:13)
We found something that just so happened to blow up for us, which was like 10,000 views in a day. The first check was like $1,200.
**Richard** (0:19)
They both went from working FedEx shifts, recording in their parents' living room, to having one of the biggest reaction channels on YouTube.
**Mikey** (0:26)
We were thinking that we were going to hit a million by August. That's how explosive the beginning was.
**Richard** (0:32)
Today, they break down what makes a video truly viral and funny, how to make people click, and how to stay relevant on YouTube for years.
**Mikey** (0:39)
You want them to crave you. I want to see Aaron and Mikey see this moment that I think is funny.
**Aaron** (0:46)
If we can successfully make a video funnier just by our commentary, that was our goal.
**Richard** (0:50)
So whether you're brand new to YouTube or already growing, this episode is packed with techniques you can apply to your own channel. What's up, guys? Welcome to the 1of10 Podcast. The number one podcast for YouTubers in the world.
**Aaron** (1:02)
Let's go.
**Richard** (1:04)
Appreciate y'all being here. It's an honor. I want to know all about how did you guys end up to 1 million subscribers, the ups and downs, how did you guys optimize? I know you guys have studied a lot YouTube in order to be where you are. Where you are. And basically, I want to show to the world what is the life, the dream life of being a YouTuber. First things first, I want to know, what is the one thing you guys think led to 1 million subscribers?
**Mikey** (1:32)
Great question.
**Aaron** (1:34)
I would say consistent improvement and blind stubbornness, the inability to allow yourself to quit and being stubborn that this is going to work.
**Richard** (1:47)
Because there's been times where it was hard.
**Aaron** (1:50)
Oh, dude. Oh, for sure, for sure. Dude, we have went to war with YouTube.
**Richard** (1:57)
Okay, okay. I will talk about that.
**Mikey** (1:59)
Anything you could think about happening to a channel, when I say anything you could think about, we've been there. The ups and the downs.
**Richard** (2:08)
Stay until the end so you understand everything that went wrong, so you guys don't have to go through it. Let's start at the beginning first. How did you guys first start YouTube together, and basically meeting each other changed both of y'all's life?
**Mikey** (2:21)
So we met through mutual friends and my siblings.
Had already been doing YouTube since like 2013
That was comedy skits. That was video production tutorials, teaching people how to shoot music videos and weddings. And that was filmmaking for Aaron. Like we were already attempting minor successes. Like, for example, I had like 50,000 subscribers on the skit channel and the tutorial channel, but nothing life-changing. It was just like, ah, this still needs to work type of thing. And then right before COVID, baby on the way, son was about to be born in eight months, saw somebody reacting, I said, they can do it, I can do it. I was like, three months, I'm gonna upload every day. If it don't work in three months, I'm gonna try something new and see if that works. Luckily, within one month, Aaron also happened to be in my apartment every day for no reason at all. So within that first month, I was like, man, how about a couple of videos? And within one month, we found something that just so happened to blow up for us, which was like 10,000 views in a day. And we just doubled down on that. People told us what they wanted to see us watch, and we just kept it going.
**Richard** (3:36)
We're talking about the Internet City channel.
**Mikey** (3:38)
The Internet City channel.
**Richard** (3:39)
That's where it started. Okay, wow.
**Mikey** (3:41)
2020, February 2020, it blew up around March 1st, somewhere around there.
**Richard** (3:47)
Yeah.
**Mikey** (3:47)
And then we just attacked from there.
**Richard** (3:50)
Why do you guys think it started to pop off right away? Because it is interesting that you did say that you had a previous channel, so you had some experience there. Because often, you will see random channels pop off, but there's always a reason behind it. Let's say that first beginning, what did you focus on that led to that initial growth for both of you?
