We Built Grok Bot. Here Are Our 14 Best Bots | Peng Zheng & Lauren Tan
Behind the Craft
September 27, 2026
Peng and Lauren are the lead designer and engineer for Grok Bot at SpaceXAI. In our interview, they showed me 14 bots that they use for work and life, from a design bot that helps Peng mock up designs to an entire team of engineering bots that help Lauren ship faster.

I will have my PM design and like three individual bots, add them into a single group chat, and then they'll start to discuss and ideate about the same. I will do the first 5 percent, and I'll create one key frame, and then ask it to scale it into the whole flow and make it like an end-to-end range.

It lets me orchestrate really massive agent swarms. Sometimes I actually don't even look at the PR until after it's landed, and then I'm like, oh, okay, that looks good. I think it ultimately comes back to trust, like, how much trust are you willing to give your agent or your bot to be able to do a task for you? And I think one thing I always try to encourage people to do is to actually spend the time to sort of observe the bot or agent doing the work.

All right. Hey, everyone, my guests today are Pen and Lauren, who are members of the design and technical staff on the Grok Bot team. Really excited to see their Grok Bot setups for work and personal tasks, and also how to use Grok Bot to design and build the actual product, and also the most surprising bots that they see the community making. Welcome both.
Lauren Tan (1:02)
Thanks for having us.
Peng Zheng (1:03)
Thank you.
Lauren Tan (1:04)
Very excited.
Peter Yang (1:05)
Yeah, very excited. I think Grok Bot is very exciting. I think it's the first persistent personal computer product that I've seen, and I use it every day myself. But why don't we start with this?
Maybe you guys can show us kind of your personal Grok Bot setup and a few of the bots that you're really proud of. Maybe let's start with you, Pen.
Peng Zheng (1:23)
Yeah, so I like to share a couple of bots I have. So basically, I'm using Grok Bot for almost everything.
In the digital world, I'm having. And at a high level, I categorize them by work and life.
And I have those most frequently used bots, been pinned here. Chief of Staff is my go-to bot. If I don't know which one should take the task, then I will send it to Chief of Staff. And one thing is, you can almost ask it to do anything in the digital world. I was asking to buy 3D printing filament a couple of days ago. And it does not only buy it for me, I also ask it to add it to the inventory list. So I have this notion database to track all my inventory, different colors of the filament. And once they bought it, it also updates the list for me.
I just discovered the benefit of training different tasks together is really powerful. Because another example is, let's say I want to sell my DJI mic on Facebook Marketplace. I just send it a photo and tell it to do a couple of things. So sell something, list something on Facebook Marketplace I think it sounds easy, but actually there are a lot of steps. Like you need to check the latest price for the model on the official website. I wanted to find out what's the lowest price offered in my area, like who I'm competing with. I wanted to learn how I write listing descriptions in the past. And I'll also post this new listing. And then, if nobody's interested in it, automatically lower the price by $5 every week. So you see, it's like a series of tasks that I... Dedicated in one single prompt. and go execute the task. And it's very interesting that I know that when it should write the description, it can sell my writer bot. So it messaged the writer bot. It asked how I wrote Marketplace listing description in the past. And then it was able to do the research. It will be finding out how other people are selling it, and then eventually put up my list. So in the past, we may do all those five steps manually by ourselves. But now, not only can you delegate individual tasks to it, but also ask it to train the tasks for you.
My bot is replacing my email. So I would do things like, hey, what are the action items in my inbox today? My email is still out of manage. And for things I identified, I can do it for me. For example, I need to pay my friend money for dinner. I'll just ask it to do so. And if it doesn't have access, it will prompt this signing page for me and I can take over and sign in on its computer and it will do it for me.
