It's time. The off season is finally over. Thursday night, we got a little college football. We saw Colorado take down Georgia Tech in one of the only powerful matchups on Thursday night. The week one slate has got some interesting games, but I think the most interesting game of the weekend remains Auburn Baylor. First year head coach Alex Golesh and a coach on the presumed hot seat in Dave Aranda will face off. The more I talk to Baylor fans, the more they're convinced that this team is so much different than last year. Now, they may have some different pieces, but will they have different results? Changing the players doesn't always change the results. They got a new defensive coordinator, same offensive coordinator, new quarterback, same head coach. There are some different pieces. I'm not convinced that the results will be that much difference. You ask me, why Mike G? Why don't you think it's going to be different? It's the talent gap. Guys, last year, I told anybody who would listen, the talent gap between these two teams was massive. It was enormous. With Jackson Arnold, the quarterback, who ran for 117 yards on Baylor, they couldn't stop Auburn from doing anything they wanted to do on the ground. That's what they coached. They had to fight his worser instincts to run the ball. This is going to be a dominant performance by Auburn in my opinion, if it doesn't work out that way. Certainly, some things will have gone wrong for Alex Golesh in his debut as Auburn's head coach. But it starts with Byrum Brown and the running game and trying to control this game on the ground and make no mistake. That's what Auburn wants to do. I don't think Baylor is going to make the mistake of sitting in too high safeties the whole game trying to stop Auburn. But make no mistake. The same way the receivers did not have to play a big role in this game last year, the receivers could play a big role in this one this year. It starts with none other than Chas Nimrod. If you are just now following Auburn content, you probably don't know who Chas Nimrod is. But he followed Golesh from USF. He was poised to break out. His potential reminds me a lot of a kid that came out of Louisville a few years ago. His name is Duke Watson. Duke led the country in average yards per carry, like 9.8 yards per carry or something crazy like that through six games. Then he got hurt. Last night, he had his debut for UCF, went absolutely nuts. Chas Nimrod has that same sort of potential. When you look at what he's accomplished at the college football level, you might not be impressed. You might think, what has this guy done to earn all this confidence? But I'm telling you guys, Chas Nimrod is a dude. He is a guy who can absolutely set the defense on fire for Baylor. And here we will be for a second year straight saying, I didn't see that coming. We overly focused on the run game and Auburn burned us through the air. And make no mistake, Byrum Brown has the potential to burn Baylor through the air. While everybody's sitting here thinking, run, run, run, run, run, Byrum Brown's legs, Jeremiah Cobb on the ground, Bryson Washington who switched sides, Auburn has the potential to air this ball out. I think this is going to be a really fun offense to watch under Alex Golesh. And watching them practice and watching their process this spring and this summer, there's no doubt that they're organized and they're poised to produce results, which is what it comes down to.
