Good morning, and welcome to Wake Up with Christopher DeSimone. Obviously, I am not Christopher DeSimone, and neither is my guest host.
So, you will be stuck with Ted Maxwell, President and CEO of the Southern Air Leadership Council, and Shelley Kais.
I'm sure Shelley will bring all the wisdom to the show today. Oh, wisdom. We will make it work out, but we both are honored to sit in for Chris today. We've got a great show lined up for you.
At the bottom of the hour, we'll be joined by Hessam Rahimian, and he's as always providing us with the latest. The thing is, Hessam will not be here in the studio with us today, and he won't be in his studio at home either, so we'll see where he's checking in from. We know he's doing big things, continuing to keep everybody informed on the reality of the nation of Iran and what's going on over there. So I look forward to talking to Hessam. He's incredibly intelligent. That will be a great conversation. Speaking of intelligent, we'll be joined by Congressman David Schweikert at the top of the top of the 7 o'clock hour. And then for the last closing segment, John Winchester, Republican candidate for LD 17 House, will be with us to give us an update of where all that sits. So how are you doing today, Shelley?
Shelley Kais (2:07)
I'm doing great. How are you, Ted?
Ted Maxwell (2:08)
I'm doing good.
Shelley Kais (2:10)
This is exciting.
Ted Maxwell (2:11)
This is.
Shelley Kais (2:12)
This is fun. I think Chris is calling this the Shell Ted.
Ted Maxwell (2:15)
Yes, he's trying to tag it. I haven't quite figured out how it is. I'm sure he's just sitting back, chuckling somewhere and Christopher will be back with you tomorrow for the show. But today he's asked us to come in and sit in. I always appreciate this opportunity because there's nobody who has been quite as engaged as you have with the Republican Party here in Pima County. So I'm always looking to you for an update on what's the latest, and how you're feeling, especially heading into three weeks away.
You know I'm going to say it, we need to make sure everybody votes. There's not any reason to not vote. You need to get out there, you need to be heard. And if you don't, then as the old saying goes, you really shouldn't be complaining about the outcomes. So you got to make sure if you've got your ballot and it's not in yet, please fill it out. You can take it down to a voting center, you can drop it in the mailbox until about the 27th. There's a lot of different ways. And if you want to show up on November 3, you can do that too.
So what are you hearing on the front on how the vote in this region and in the states going so far?
Shelley Kais (3:17)
So first off, if you look yesterday, Georgia broke all records, over 180,000 people on the first day of voting. So this midterm is so important and people are getting it. So they're showing up to vote. And I think we're going to see that here in Arizona too. I just came back from the Arizona Federation of Republican Women Weekend Conference up in Prescott. It was amazing.
We had, just to kind of give you an idea of what a line up at AZFRW looks like, we had Congressman Gosar Crane Burschett from Tennessee and Clyde from Georgia.
We had conversations with Congress. We had Representative Biasucci and Senator Fincham talking about the legislature. And then we spent the day stuffing over 2,000 sleeves of distribution. We made 2,700 phone calls. We sent out almost 600 postcards. And by the way, to get postcard stamps, we had to go down to Tumacacri, I think that's how you say it, and Rio Rico.
There are no postcard stamps. Wow. I mean, finding postcard stamps is something. So you know what that tells me? Everybody is hard at work sending things out. And we did texting. So we had a huge effort. And you know what? It was the first time I've seen the RNC, the AZ GOP and the AZ FRW all partner together to work on a campaign. And so I'm really excited. I'm feeling good about this.
