Matt, it's almost like we spoke it into existence. That's Matt Youmans, I'm Tim Murray.
Just a moment ago, we were talking about a discussion, a tweet from Krista Bear Felica regarding AL MVP. And Corey, if you don't mind, can you pull that tweet back up here in just a second here, because I want to bring something up that's pretty important, so this is...
Matt Youmans (0:30)
Very timely.
Tim Murray (0:31)
Krista Felica tweeted this out earlier today. Agree with Joe Sheehan on AL MVP. Alvarez, Jordan Alvarez, way too short of a price.
Believe he has three homers and 14 RBI since August 1st. If the Rays are the one seed and the Astros miss the postseason, how isn't Junior Caminero your MVP? Well, Matt, guess what just happened.
Matt Youmans (0:57)
Right after we finished talking about this, Junior did what, Tim?
Tim Murray (1:01)
Walk off homer.
Matt Youmans (1:03)
That's pretty good.
Tim Murray (1:04)
2-1 win for the Rays, 41st homer of the season for Junior Caminero. Rays are now 91 and 59
They are going to win the AL East. And I just pulled up FanDuel.
They have their odds up live for MVP. DraftKings and other sportsbooks pull them down. And Caminero now down to 11 to one. I know the numbers come down, Matt, is it worth a bet now or has it gone too low?
Matt Youmans (1:30)
Now I'm angry about this. I was going to bet this earlier today and I didn't pull the trigger. And now it's 11 to one. I think he still bet 11 to one. I think he deserves to win MVP.
Alvarez has done very little since August 1st. And the Rays as the top seed in the American League with Caminero putting up numbers comparable to Pete Crow Armstrong, I think he should be MVP.
Tim Murray (1:53)
Jordán Alvarez has less homers than Junior Caminero. 38 homers and just taking a look at his month of September, he's batting 206 in September with one homer and two RBI.
In the month of August, he hit 287, but three homers, 20 RBI. So something to keep an eye on as Junior Caminero does hit a walk-off homer tonight for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Matt Youmans (2:20)
You could take 11 to one right now, and I think that race is gonna, those numbers are gonna tighten up, don't you think, over the next week or two?
Tim Murray (2:26)
I would think so, Matt. The Rays, 91 and 59, now four-game lead over the Yankees, but the Yankees right now, let me double-check on where the Yankees are at. Three-one lead for the Yankees as they head to the bottom of the fifth inning. And Houston Astros, once again, 75 and 75
One-game lead in the AL West. The Houston Astros do lead two to nothing tonight against the Kansas City Royals. Almost said Kansas City Chiefs. Baseball is on the mind.
As for our game of the night, that is taking place in Chicago. As you mentioned earlier, Matt, looks like a lovely night there in Wrigley Field. Three to nothing is the score, top of the sixth inning. Kevin Gausman, the acquisition by the Chicago Cubs at the deadline, pitching quite well. Five scoreless innings, five strikeouts. And it's funny, Matt, he was not really having the best of years with the Toronto Blue Jays. And his last outing against the Brewers, he got lit up. But he's kind of at an up and down run here with the Cubs. He's had a couple of really strong starts. He gets Arizona, Milwaukee, but a couple of starts who he's gotten lit up. But so far tonight, very good against the Atlanta Braves and he picks up another strike out there in the top of the sixth.
Matt Youmans (3:44)
It looks good tonight. It was raining a little bit earlier at Wrigley Field, but Gossman in total control. Right now, we got Brewers on top of the Pirates, five zero. Dodgers on top of the Reds, four zero. And in this game, the Cubs lead the Braves, three zero. Padres up on the Rockies, two zero in Colorado. How about the Padres have won eight in a row, eighty two and sixty eight. And last night, they got Homers from Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis. That never happened in the first couple of months of the season. Tatis has actually rebounded to have put up pretty nice numbers at this point. Over twenty Homers, I think he went almost three months. The first three months without a home run, right? Now he's got over twenty.
