We are off and running on a busy Wednesday night. Alongside Matt Youmans, I'm Tim Murray. We've got game three of the NLCS tonight, Chavez Ravine. Ticket prices going down.
Does that mean the Brewers will have a little bit of friendly fans in the stands there? Probably not, but we got ourselves Blake Snell on the mound. He was great last year in the NLCS, Matt. That, of course, will be our game of the night. We will dive into that. We've got a couple of college football games going on tonight. We've got a nice slate of guests that we will have on the program, including the Canadian kid, Ian Cameron. We'll get some college football and maybe an NHL player too from the kid.
Matt Youmans (0:59)
Well, we'll get a bunch of plays from the kid. I'm sure he's got bets on everything, NFL, college football, CFL, hockey, maybe even hoops coming up. NBA season is going to tip off next week. So we talked a little bit about that last night.
The World Series coming soon, and it looks like it's going to be the Milwaukee Brewers in there for the first time since 1982 The Dodgers have got to win tonight to keep hope alive, Tim. Nothing worse than hope.
Tim Murray (1:29)
I was going to say, do you think there's a lot of hope or nothing worse than it?
Matt Youmans (1:33)
Look, when you're talking about a two-time champ, two-time defending champ in the Dodgers, there's always more than a little bit of hope. But I feel like the Brewers are taking the Dodgers down. I felt that way before the series, obviously even stronger now up 2-0. But this is a game tonight where I would not bet the Brewers. I think with Blake Snell and a clear pitching advantage and the Dodgers in a situation of desperation, I think you have to bet the home favorite tonight if you're going to play it. I am not playing the dog tonight. This is the one the Dodgers are going to get. After tonight, all bets are off. And by the way, if Dodgers lose tonight, the series is going to be over. I think that's pretty obvious.
Shohei Otani, to me, the biggest difference in the Dodgers from last season to this season, and this time of year ago to now, as you and I have talked about, he had maybe the greatest game all time in the playoffs last year against the Brewers. But he pitched six shutout innings with ten strikeouts and hit three homers.
And right now, he's three for twenty in the postseason. He has not hit a home run since the middle of August. And to me, that's the biggest difference in the Dodgers is they had the best player on the planet this time of year ago. And he's a non factor or a negative factor right now. And also, as we mentioned last night with Cody Decker, the more I watch the Dodgers, I just feel like they've lost their swagger. They're not playing with the same confidence they have in the past. We always believe the Dodgers are going to make a comeback. Somebody would come up with a big hit. You're not seeing that right now.
But Blake Snell has got the responsibility tonight to try to keep this Dodgers season alive. And I just saw the stat that over his last three postseason starts, Snell has a 646 ERA. I expect him to come up big and pitch well tonight. But again, with Snell, we've talked to either, he's either great or he's garbage. Usually it's not something in between. You're gonna get a great start from Snell or you're gonna see early that he doesn't have it. So I think the Dodgers do come back, get a win tonight. But ultimately, Tim, I feel very strongly about this. Dodgers are going down in this series and you on your morning shows in Milwaukee will be talking about the Brewers in the World Series this time next week.
Tim Murray (3:45)
Yeah, that'll be something. That'll be pretty spectacular if that is to come to fruition. There are a couple other stats that have been percolating around. How about the Dodgers? Runners in scoring position 2 for 26
Matt Youmans (3:58)
That's not good.
Tim Murray (3:58)
In this series, Matt, you mentioned Blake Snell. He did start against the Braves. He allowed one run on three hits. Only lasted three and two-third.
He was all over the place. He walked five, struck out five. His last two starts in the World Series, as you alluded to, weren't great as he gave up five runs in each of those games. His last really good start, Matt, against these Brewers in the playoffs. It is game one, NLCS, a year ago, eight scoreless innings with ten strikeouts. Can he recapture the magic that he had last year in Milwaukee in game one, which was the jump start to that sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers?
