Hello, friends, Lee C. Camp. You're listening to No Small Endeavor. This is our unabridged interview with Curtis Chang. Curtis is the founder and leader of the organization Good Faith, a non-partisan non-profit that helps Christians think about how to bridge what many would see as the divide between faith and politics, and focuses, as you'll hear in the interview, a lot on the how, as opposed to focusing exclusively on the what of politics. Rather than always being constantly obsessed, we might say, with the what of politics, policies, what kind of thing to try to get in place by hook or by crook.
Curtis is asking us to focus more on the how, and that there's a great deal of wisdom in scripture, especially places like the Sermon on the Mount, on the how, namely things like don't lie, lack a refusal to demean one's opponent, like even the practice of loving one's enemies. That's a fascinating conversation.
But at the top of the interview, what you'll hear is a conversation about Curtis' experience as an immigrant. He and his family came to the United States from Taiwan when he was three. And this is one of the things I have found myself increasingly interested in, I don't know why, in recent interviews of asking questions about early childhood experience and how that has led to the kind of work someone has done in the world. And you'll hear a lot of remarkable conversation about Curtis' experience as an immigrant and how that has informed the kind of work he has sought to do in a number of different areas of work as what he calls a bridge builder, trying to find a way to get from one cultural specificity to another. We have a lot of friends in common, so it's nice that we finally get to talk and get to visit. So grateful to be with you. I wonder, maybe it's because I'm getting older myself, but I start to think about sometimes early childhood memories. I wonder, what's your earliest childhood memory?

**Curtis Chang** (4:10)
My earliest childhood memory is I was born in Taiwan. I immigrated to the US when I was three, but my earliest memory of Taiwan is this very snippet of a memory where I was suffering from a very severe flu and was very feverish. And what they did in those days was to bundle you up and try to sweat out a fever. I remember being just drenched in sweat. And then somehow the fever broke.
And my mom came in and took me out on the balcony.
