Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Roundup. Britain's biggest banks have moved tokenized deposits between one another for the first time, using programmable bank money to complete mortgages in an online purchase test. That is a direct challenge to the idea that stable coins will own digital payments. Bitcoin, meanwhile, is fighting back from below $83,000 as bond yields ease. And ARK is putting venture fund exposure to OpenAI and Anthropic on Ethereum. At the time of recording, Bitcoin is around $83,645, down approximately 1% over 24 hours after falling as low as $82,941.

Ethereum is near $2,655 and down roughly 0.7%.

XRP is close to $1.50 and lower by about 2%, while BNB is around $777 and up approximately 1.4%.

Solana is near $114.60. Hyperliquid is close to $91.90.

Cardano is around $0.25 and Chainlink is near $12.49.

Litecoin is the clear outlier, near $72.70 and up almost 20%.

Although no single verified announcement explains the whole move. Tell us whether you would rather hold programmable money issued by a bank or a stablecoin company. This is not financial advice. Crypto trading involves risk of loss. The lead story is the Great British Tokenized Deposit Project. Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest and Barclays completed two remortgage transactions using tokenized deposits. A separate group that included HSBC simulated a person-to-person purchase in an online marketplace. In the shopping test, money was reserved in the buyer's bank account and released to the seller after the goods were marked received. No physical goods changed hands, so this was controlled testing rather than ordinary commerce. In the mortgage transactions, locked money was released automatically when each property transaction completed. The crucial point is what the token represents. It is still a claim on a commercial bank, with the same legal status as the money in a bank account. A stable coin is normally a claim on a private issuer backed by its reserve assets. Both can move on blockchain rails, but they place the holder's trust in different institutions. That difference explains why the Bank of England has encouraged banks to experiment with tokenized deposits. If payment activity moves into stable coins, deposits can leave banks, potentially reducing a source of credit and weakening central bank influence. Tokenized deposits promise programmable settlement without moving the money outside the banking system.

UK Finance Managing Director Jana McIntosh said other jurisdictions have been trying to understand how they can catch up. The next phase is harder than a pilot. The project plans to establish a company, write a rule book and build governance for production. Participating banks also plan three digital bonds in the first quarter of 2027 that can be traded and settled with tokenized deposits. Banks gain a way to defend payment activity. Customers could gain faster transactions and less settlement risk. Stablecoin issuers lose part of their advantage if bank money becomes equally programmable. The counter argument is interoperability. A tokenized Barclays deposit and a tokenized NatWest deposit still need common rules, reliable redemption and technology that works outside a small pilot. The thesis fails if banks create closed systems that cannot connect, or if ordinary users see no improvement in cost or speed. Would you choose a bank token for its legal status, or a stablecoin for its reach across crypto markets? Watch the new company, its rule book, the first production customer, and those three digital bonds in early 2027

The second story is Bitcoin's attempt to recover while interest rates still dominate the market. The United States 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.116% today, its highest level since 2007, before easing to roughly 5.09%.

The 30-year yield touched 5.419%, the highest since 2004

Bitcoin rebounded from below $83,000 as yields pulled back, but it remains lower over 24 hours. Strong economic data kept pressure on bonds. Weekly jobless claims were 197,000, below the 201,000 expected. And August new home sales reached an annualized 684,000 against a forecast of 620,000.

Traders now see four additional quarter point Federal Reserve increases as the most likely path by June 2027, which would lift the target range from 3.75% to 4% today to 4.75% to 5%.

That is market pricing, not a promise from the Federal Reserve. Richmond Federal Reserve President Tom Barkin said he remains open to shocks reversing and inflation falling, even as tariffs, conflict and artificial intelligence construction keeps stressing supply chains. Double Line Capital founder Jeffrey Gundlach captured the policy trap. If the Fed hikes, it will worsen the interest expense problem. If the Fed cuts it will worsen the inflation problem.
