Welcome back to the SENWA studio out here at Optus Stadium on this Tuesday morning in Perth. Gonna be warm, Peter.
Peter (1:05)
Yep. Getting warmer. 27 today, 30 tomorrow. Lovely. Don't mind that.
Britt's on the text line, saying, Pump for the cricket, the Savo.
Mark Duffield (1:12)
So this is... It's an ODI, yes?
Peter (1:16)
Yep, that's it.
Mark Duffield (1:16)
In Harare?
Peter (1:17)
In Harare, yep. It's been 12 years since Australia have faced Zimbabwe in a ODI in Zimbabwe, and Mitch Marsh is the only remaining member of that 11 from that day.
Mark Duffield (1:26)
And he is playing his 100th ODI.
Peter (1:31)
Yeah, and he said something about, at one point, I had hopes to play for Zimbabwe. Funnily enough, it must have been when he was a kid, maybe, when Swampy was coaching them or something like that.
Mark Duffield (1:40)
Yes, yes, yes.
Peter (1:41)
It goes a long way back to have wanted to do that. But Cooper Connolly is going to be in the side as well. But this is, from going to playing test matches in Mackay and Darwin to now playing one day in Harare, it just feels like they're just spinning the globe and going, right there, we'll play a game.
Mark Duffield (2:01)
You know what, I don't mind the northern winter test matches.
I think it brings that end of the country into cricket, and I think that's great. If they pick the right opponents for those test matches, I think that has the potential to become a real thing. Because let's face it, there are venues in and around Australia that are too big for the crowds that are drawn to the test matches we play against them. So it might be that it doesn't have to be against Bangladesh or one of the real minnows of test cricket. Maybe it can be against one of those middle-ranking teams, where we can fill the smaller grounds at Mackay or in Darwin and have real, meaningful test cricket with a great atmosphere in our winter, but obviously the dry season up north. So I don't mind that. But I'm struggling to get as excited as Brits is about the one day international in Harare today.
Peter (3:08)
Yeah, the possible 11 for Australia, which they're saying is getting closer to their preferred 11 Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Cooper Connelly, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, Matt Renshaw. They've got Alex Carey slash Olly Peak there, so there's still a decision to be made over those two. Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazelwood.
Not a bad side.
Mark Duffield (3:26)
Yeah, pretty strong team.
Peter (3:27)
Yep, and we'll see how they go. Up against Zimbabwe, Australia have only lost three one-days to Zimbabwe, and two have come in the last four matches. The other was in 1983
Bit of a gap between those ones there. And Mitchell Marsh has played five in Zimbabwe, one day as that is, and he averages 55.5.
Mark Duffield (3:47)
Yeah, he's been a great white ball cricketer now, Mitchell Marsh, and a really impactful one. He's shown up in big moments for the Aussies, so he's well deserved the 100 game milestone.
Peter (3:59)
Definitely. One more from Greg Minderi before we take a break. Duff, as a Dockers fan, who would you like to face in the Grand Final, providing we make it? Personally, I would like the team with the most injuries, regards Greg Minderi.
SPEAKER_2 (4:08)
That's right. He's got gags, Greg.
Mark Duffield (4:09)
He's got gags galore.
Yeah, so look, either one is going to be a worthy opponent. You just want to be there, really. I think Free Manor would love another crack at Hawthorne.
Peter (4:20)
Yes, definitely.
Mark Duffield (4:20)
After not turning up against them in the qualifying final over here. But having said that, the other side of it is to be the best, you want to beat the best, and I still think Brisbane are the best. So yeah, I think that would be very worthy, I think.
