Ken Cairns (0:11)

Welcome back to the Hobby Chop Podcast. This is the podcast for the people. I am Big Ken, he is Zip.

Zip, you're late. How are you doing, my friend?

SPEAKER_2 (0:22)

I am late.

I feel like I'm all over the place, man. I got too much going on, I think. But almost there, almost there, I'm doing.

Ken Cairns (0:33)

How are you doing?

SPEAKER_2 (0:34)

Like I said, I feel like I just have stuff going on non-stop. I feel like I'm all over the place. I'm okay, but I have two, I feel like I have to, great, the Dodgers won. So my Shohei Otani investment remains safe for another round.

Ken Cairns (0:54)

Somebody sent me, somebody from Connecticut, send me a bunch of pictures of Otani cards. I give them your name. I told them to talk to you. You're the Otani guy.

SPEAKER_2 (1:06)

I'm on a buying pause. I had someone message me today with a William's anime from Bowman. I was like, yeah, I'm not buying anything right now. I'm waiting. I can buy stuff right now. But I just, I'm kind of taking this time to just do a semi-reset.

Yeah, there you go. Howard, he's the Otani guy. Nah, Howard's the Otani guy. I'm just, I'm small potatoes. Oh, my boy, Matthew Ryan. Imagine if Mr. Otani got hot.

I'd be doing okay. I'll just say that.

Ken Cairns (1:48)

Howard, I'll give him your name too, tell you to send you those cards.

SPEAKER_2 (1:52)

Send them to Howard.

Yeah, send them to Howard. I don't need to buy any cards right now. I'm okay.

Ken Cairns (1:58)

Unless he's listening live tonight, then yeah, Howard was early on him. Then he knows he can interact with Howard in the chat.

Look at all the people jumping in. Thank you. Thank you for being here tonight. I appreciate that. I didn't hear anybody say the Atlanta Dream is winning. Angel Reese killing it tonight.

SPEAKER_2 (2:26)

Well, you got to be 33% of the people with it on television watching from home. So shout out to you, man. Keeping the viewership up for the WNBA.

Ken Cairns (2:35)

I sent, I gave some Caitlin Clark cards to.

SPEAKER_2 (2:39)

Well, there's a reason that we don't dodge WNBA games for our podcast because that won't interfere with our viewership.

Ken Cairns (2:47)

Come on, man.

SPEAKER_2 (2:50)

I had, I actually had someone messaged me on, on Facebook with a pagebackers card and other stuff, asking if I wanted to buy it.

Ken Cairns (3:00)

And I just, as soon as I saw the pagebackers, I was just, no, you could blame that on Panini though. I mean, Panini just crushed the market this year. And yeah, remember last year, the WNBA boxes, they were selling for $850 or $875. And this year, they come out the gate selling at $300 or $325 or something. It's just like ridiculous how, how inexpensive it became and how much they've overprinted it already.

Just what they did last, I mean, they don't really have much else going on over there, right? So instead of printing for all the different sports, they're just, you know, inundating it with what they have left to, to potter.

SPEAKER_2 (3:39)

There's just so many cards constantly coming out. Um, yeah, I, as, as like I'm seeing all this unlicensed stuff like VJ Edgecombe, I've seen a bunch of his autos because he's only in Panini products, and I'm sure there's others, but it's just like, I'm just not even interested in it.

Ken Cairns (3:59)

Yeah. I put up, I put up some Caitlin Clark cards on, for on consignment. They both sold last night.

And I did well with them. I did really well. I was happy. And I still think that because the 2024 wasn't as overprinted, that I still think those cards are holding value and the pop counts are staying pretty reasonable.

SPEAKER_2 (4:24)

Well, there were three releases, right? There's Prism, Origins, and Select. And then that royalty product, which is the whole thing.

Ken Cairns (4:32)

That was just for the select people who could afford them.

SPEAKER_2 (4:36)

That was crazy. That was really crazy.

Ken Cairns (4:41)

Spike, I hope you're feeling better. I see you in the chat nice and early tonight. I hope you're doing better now.

SPEAKER_2 (4:52)

Have you done anything hobby-related since last week? Did you do a show?

Ken Cairns (4:59)

I did a show Sunday. Yeah, I did the Hamden Card Show on Sunday. How did that go? I had a bunch of good pickups.

That's why I set up at that show. I mean, I take that back. I usually don't sell much at that show, and I probably sold more at that show Sunday than I've ever sold at that show. And yeah, I'm not going to go round up the cards, but you can go back and catch the recap of my Sunday episode, my solo, where I recapped all the cards I picked up there. So yeah, I mean-
