Thank you so much to Jimmy and indeed to Greg. Greg will be back at 8 o'clock with more news for you. Welcome to the show tonight. It's the Tuesday edition of Top Sport. We've all calmed down after last night. Thank you to everybody who sent messages across social media and on the show last night as well.
Really excited to begin hopefully another 800 shows for you as we start show number 801 A dramatic day of sport all round. Let me tell you what is coming up on the show tonight. Being a Tuesday, once again, we're on the money. Tonight, we look at a netball program that is in place to empower young people using the sport as well as to try and curb a couple of social ills. It's a program called Netballers with Attitude. We'll find out all about it a little later on in the show.
In cricket, well, the third and final test between the Proteas and Australia began this morning in Cape Town. What an astonishing day of test match cricket. South Africa had an opening partnership of 158 They had a partnership for the seventh wicket of 95, and yet they still only made 329 all out. Put into bat when Australia won the test, it looked like a shocking decision as Ackermann and Markram made hay while the sun shone and boy did it shine. They scored it around five runs to the over in the morning session, went to lunch at 140 without loss. Admittedly, there was a very, very simple drop chance. Travis Head putting down a very simple catch just before lunch, and South Africa went into lunch in a very strong position. But then after lunch, they lost five wickets for the addition of round about 20 runs, and fell apart completely at the seams as they slumped to around 232 for six. Only for Marco Janssen together with the left-handed Ryan Rickleton, who rebuilt the innings with a stand of 95 The new ball became due on K. Mitchell Stark, and in the space of a few deliveries, 15 deliveries with a new ball, he cleaned up the last four wickets. So I would say, most would disagree with me, I would say it's slightly advantage Australia at the end of day one of this test match. The batting is still really good. Australia will be buoyed by the way they turned the match around, South Africa need to strike early tomorrow morning. There's a lot to talk about, I'll go through that scorecard in detail for you a little later on, but a few very disappointing wickets that South Africa lost, particularly just after lunch, that really set them back. In football, plenty of calling, knockout cup action. Tonight, there are three matches, the big three are all at home at the Orlando Amstel Arena, Pirates hosting Milford, that's a rematch of the opening game of this season for the new boys in the league. They'll be hoping for a good cup run, as was their case in the Nedbank Cup last season. In the capital, sundowns up against Marumo Gallans, looking to put the disappointment of being eliminated in the CAF Champions League behind them. And Chiefs, who also will put their disappointment of being knocked out in the CAF Confed Cup that home to TX Galaxy at the FNB Stadium. Speaking of the FNB Stadium, the Soweto Derby takes center stage there on Saturday. Some suggestions have been made about logistics on the day, one of them being numbers on seats and tickets. Do you think seat numbers or ticket number systems would work? Share your thoughts and let us know what ways they are to explore in order to make the Derby experience better. Still with football, finally, Harry Kane, once of Norwich City, yes, I kid you not, has been crowned the Ballon d'Or winner ahead of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe. Do you think he was a worthy winner? Would you rather someone else was picked as the winner? Share your thoughts on that. On the women's side of things, Alexia Proteas of the London City Lionesses was crowned the winner. Congratulations to all the winners from last night, even though the ceremony started late as a result of London traffic.
And in the Premier League, it would seem that Michael Carrick's job is safe for now, as the powers at Man United seem to want to give him a chance to turn things around at the club. United fans, what do you think? Should he be given a chance? Should somebody else take over? There was talk of potentially Eddie Howe, formerly the Newcastle manager, stepping into the role. But at the moment, it looks like Carrick will continue, at least for the next little while. In Carabao Cup action, there are two matches tonight. Bradford City taking on Peterborough, and Arsenal go to a stadium that's named after their former home, Highbury, when they take on Fleetwood in the fifth round of the competition. So those are just some of the sporting matters taking place around the country and around the globe. Let's get to our quiz question tonight. It's an interesting quiz question. Let's see how you do with it. So here's my question for you. The four sides that made it through over the weekend to the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout Cup, they were of course Siwelele FC, Golden Arrows, Sekukuni United and Amazulu. Those four sides. Listen carefully to what I'm going to ask you now.
