Yes, we've brought this forward to the first hour, because we've got Duff and the Doctor coming up after the 10 o'clock news. So this is the five outstanding defenders of last weekend's AFL round.
They deserve their moment in the sun. You know, we give it all to the midfielders and the forwards and everything like that. But these are the guys that you build it all around, aren't they? They deserve you to turn your microphone on when you're talking about it.
Let's not do it off air. Don't reveal the curtain too much stuff, okay? Number one. Number one, James Sicily, the Hawke skipper, was back in form, played an outstanding game. 33 disposals, 10 marks, 600 meters gained, 13 intercept possessions. Now, it's fair to say the Saints were off their tucker, but the CIS dined out on them. Most definitely. Number two? Number two, Tommy McCartan. Now, the Tigers were definitely off their tucker. So, they went to the SEG and got absolutely clobbered. But what defending there was to be done, Tommy McCartan and Nick Blakey absolutely did. Tommy McCartan had 10 intercept possessions, six contested marks, 26 disposals, 13 marks overall, 296 meters gained. Number three, someone else that should be in all Australian consideration? Jordan Clark. Well, the problem for Jordan is that the free-mantle back six is so strong across the board, it's hard to pick a standout anymore. Kyle Warner's flying, Heath Chapman's playing better and better week by week. But Jordan Clark just gave free-mantle so much punch and run out of defense on the weekend. I loved his game. 24 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 659 meters gained. Two goal assists, 5 score involvements. Not bad. Number four? Connor Iden. I reckon this guy's a quiet achiever in the AFL. He plays down back for GWS. He plays deep, so he's off on a lockdown. 29 disposals, 14 marks, 384 meters gained. 8 intercept possessions against Melbourne in the Alice. Number five? We'll back him in for all Australian squad. Reuben Ginby, almost the form defender in the AFL right now. 17 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 307 meters gained. 11 intercept possessions, 6 score involvements for West Coast against Essendon. And apologies this week? Apologies to Conor O'Sullivan from Geelong, great young defender and also Braydon Maynard, the tough nut from Collingwood.
I like Braydon Maynard. I like, I know that he did the Brayshaw thing and he should have got time for it and he shouldn't have been allowed to play in a Premiership, but he's a hell of a player. You'd love him if he was playing in your team. Yeah, I don't know.
Not sure.
