They Lied About Purpose (It Was Never a Thing You Find)

You have been searching for your purpose. Your calling. The thing you were put here to do. And the longer you search โ€” the more behind you feel. Here is what nobody told you. You will never find it. Because it was never lost. And it was never a thing.

You have been searching for it, your purpose, your calling, the thing you were put here to do. The longer you search, the more behind you feel, and here's what nobody told you, you will never find it, because it was never lost, and it was never a thing.

You were sold a story that somewhere out there is a single purpose with your name on it, and your job is to find it, and until you do, everything you do is just waiting. Now, that story is not just wrong, it is actually paralyzing, because you cannot search for a thing that does not exist as a thing. So, you wait, and the waiting feels like failure. Now, Viktor Frankl watched men in camps survive, and then men in the camps give up. And the difference was never the search. The ones who lasted, they did not find a grand purpose. They responded to the specific demand right in front of them. A person to care for, a task to finish.

Frankl said it directly, do not ask what the meaning of life is. Life is asking you.

The purpose is not a question you ask. It is a question you answer. And in this moment, with this specific action, Simon Sinek mapped the same pattern in how people and how companies operate, the ones who endure. They do not start with what they do, they start with why. And notice, the why is not discovered in a flash of clarity on a mountain top. It is built, it is excavated, it is found by looking backward at the pattern already running through everything you have already done. Carl Jung, he went even further. He spent a lifetime on what he called individuation and he was very clear that purpose is not assigned from outside and it is not chosen from a menu.

It actually emerges. It is a slow process of becoming who you already are. The acorn does not search for how to become an oak. The blueprint is already inside. The work is removing what is, blocking it. Here's what all three are pointing out, pointing to. You do not find your purpose. You build it.

And you build it by responding to what is in front of you today with everything you are. The search was the lie. The response is the protocol.

The search was the lie. The response is the protocol. Purpose was never an object on the horizon.

And today, not someday.

My name is Igor. Nine years, over 400 books, one per week. Remove the noise, find the signal, apply and then share. This series exists because of one question I couldn't stop asking myself after losing everything I have built. What was it actually for? So, stay with me. What do you actually do?

Three steps, built from Frankl, Sinek and Jung, and all agreeing underneath their different frameworks. Step one, stop searching and start answering. It's not the question, what is my purpose? It has no answer. It is the wrong question. Replace it with what is being asked of me right now. Who needs something from me today? What task is in front of me that I keep avoiding? Because it's not grand enough. Frankl was clear, the meaning is in the response, not in the search. So answer the question life is actually asking and stop interviewing for a job that was never posted.

Step two, look backward to find the pattern.

Your why is not in the future. It is in the evidence already behind you. So look at the moments you lost track of time and the problems you kept solving for free. The thing people come to you and they come to you for it without even asking. Sinek's why is excavated, it's not invented.

It is already there, running through your whole life. So you are not searching for purpose, you are noticing the one that is already in operating the entire time. And then finally step three, remove what is blocking the unfolding. Jung's individuation is not addition, it is actually subtraction. The oak is already in the acorn. The work is clearing what stands in the way, the borrowed expectations, the identity someone else handed you, the noise that drowns the signal. Stop asking what to add to your life to make it meaningful. Start asking what to remove, so that the meaning that is already there can finally breathe.
