Hello, Smart Money Tree Podcast listeners. Welcome to this week's show. My name is Kirk Chisholm. I'll be your host, and today I'm joined with Doug Heagren. Hey, Doug.
Douglas Heagren (0:17)
Hey, Kirk. Nobody recognizes me. I'm glad to be here.
Kirk Chisholm (0:22)
It's all those days out in the woods, Doug, all those hunting. I heard your son got a deer. It was pretty cool.
Douglas Heagren (0:27)
He did, yeah.
So you're allowed to start hunting 30 minutes before official sunrise. And we heard the deer walk through exactly 30 minutes before official sunrise. So fortunately for him, the biggest worry he had was that he was going to sit there bored all day. He didn't have to sit there at all.
Kirk Chisholm (0:46)
He's going to want to go out every day, Doug.
Douglas Heagren (0:48)
He's already ready to go back. It was a great experience to spend with him.
Kirk Chisholm (0:52)
My youngest son, when he fished the first time, he threw his line in the water and caught a huge fish the first time, and now he loves fishing. He's got fishing karma. I don't know what it is. He finds fish when nobody else is finding him, and he gets them right away. So kudos to him for his fishing karma.
Douglas Heagren (1:11)
Right? Exactly. It sucks him in. It may not be reality, but reality might scare him away. Sometimes life's got to throw those little mini lies to keep him intrigued.
Kirk Chisholm (1:22)
No, it's good. It's good. I have parking karma. My wife laughs every time we go park somewhere, because I have parking karma. I will find the craziest spot in the best place, and it's just coincident all the time. It's hilarious. Like it's, everyone's looking and somebody just pulls out right in front of me like, oh, right in front of the store. Great.
Douglas Heagren (1:40)
That's such a hell of a skill I wish I had.
Kirk Chisholm (1:43)
Yeah. I'm very jealous of you right now.
Douglas Heagren (1:46)
Yeah.
Kirk Chisholm (1:48)
Deficient in a lot of areas that I'd like to have skills in.
Douglas Heagren (1:51)
This is one of those skills that was absolutely useless for 99.999 percent of human existence. But in today's modern world, you are alpha. You're the alpha.
Kirk Chisholm (2:03)
I'm a rock star, Doug. That's right. I couldn't survive in the woods by myself, but I can survive in a park a lot.
Douglas Heagren (2:09)
Yeah. And man, we are a world built on black tops. So you're going to do just fine when the rest of us are forced to park well outside the borders of the continuously expanding city, and we all drop dead just commuting in. You will already be there sitting on the throne.
Kirk Chisholm (2:27)
Yep. When you're scrounging for food in the parking lot, I'm going to know where it is, Doug.
Douglas Heagren (2:30)
You're going to be inside the kitchen already.
Kirk Chisholm (2:32)
Yep. I'll be there. I'll be there. Awesome. Let's dive right in because once again, we have a lot to talk about. AI is once again the topic. The topic today is the end of the world is going to be tomorrow or the next day, I think. We've heard so much of doomerism.
There are doomers out there and I find it interesting because there's plenty of doomers and politicians are jumping on the bandwagon. He's Bernie Sanders as a whipping boy because he wants to ban super intelligence and I think maybe he just needs a little intelligence himself.
Douglas Heagren (3:01)
I think he likes to get whipped secretly.
Kirk Chisholm (3:03)
Yeah, that's a different podcast.
Look, there's plenty of politicians who want to play on our fears and they want fear because fear is what drives human behavior.
When there's no fear, there's complacency and complacency doesn't drive the economy, it doesn't drive behavior and frankly doesn't get politicians elected. So they love fear. You know what else loves fear? The AI companies. Because if the world is ending tomorrow, I mean, think about what's going on. Sam Altman and Dario are out there saying, they're not saying it, but the collective message between them, their employees and random people are, oh, there's a 10 percent chance that AI is going to destroy your humanity, so we need to get there first. Like, if you really break it down their messages, the 10 percent chance that AI is going to destroy humanity, so we need to get there first. We need to advance these models as quick as possible.
