Week 5 is concluded, and that means it's time for the Dynasty Points Rookie Report. Some players that we're discussing, some highs and lows, and also a few sleepers potentially breaking out. We're here to talk about it. This is Dynasty Points. This is the Week 5 Rookie Report, and it starts right now.

Hello, everybody, welcome back to Dynasty Points. This is the Rookie Report. We do this every week to keep you up to date with some of the storylines and events happening with this 2026 Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Class. I'm excited to dive back in. After missing last week, if you like videos like this and want more, you can definitely go and check out the live, which we are doing after we're done this recording. You guys are seeing this obviously on the Wednesday. The live happens on the Tuesday, same page. Just head over to live section. You're not going to miss out on the veteran and rankings and reactions update show that we do every single week. With that being said, I'm ready to jump in. We have Jakob Sanderson and Ryan Heath ready to jump in. Ryan, where do you want to kick us off?

Ryan Heath (1:12)

I want to start with probably the most notable positive rookie performance that we had in week five here with Jeremy Bernard. Bernard's going to be a hot name on Redraft WaverWires this week is my guess. He is a hot name in the Dynasty streets, of course, was an early round two rookie pick that people had at least some hopes for. I know I was somewhat into the profile. I thought it was a bit easier to make excuses for why he didn't have overwhelmingly amazing age-adjusted production based on some of the target competition he'd faced throughout his college career relative to other receivers in his class. So definitely interesting to see him pop up this early.

Just a week ago, Jakob and I were a little bit bearish on him and kind of waiting to see if he would overtake Roman Wilson. But that did immediately happen in week five. He must have hurt us. So Jakob, give us kind of your take, your outlook here on Jeremy Bernard in the near term. And do you believe that he can kind of maintain a full-time role that he seems to have just won in this Steelers offense?

Jakob Sanderson (2:26)

Yeah, it's been kind of an interesting season for him where we've now seen this play out in two games where he's had a hard time earning routes ahead of Roman Wilson and DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman, but he has had a very easy time earning targets over those guys when he actually plays. We saw Pittman miss in week two. Bernard was heavily involved in that game. They play almost entirely 11 personnel in passing plays. So as long as you're one of the three starting receivers, everyone's running more or less the same number of routes. And he was able to earn a bunch of targets back then.

I felt like it was really building momentum until he had that rep where he basically volleyed a screen pass directly into a defender's arms. That seemed to set him back. And then Michael Pittman came back to play uselessly through injury as Michael Pittman does. I respect him. He's a very tough person. He has a long history of playing through injuries that render him completely ineffective.

That happened for a couple of weeks as he's dealing with plantar fasciitis. He then got placed on short-term IR. So now we have a four week stretch where instead of being kind of trapped behind Roman Wilson, he gets to play next to Wilson and next to Metcalf. Really a fantastic match up for him, I will say, this week. The Colts, people like love to make a lot of fun of Sauce Gardener. I get it. It was a ridiculous trade, all that.

Opposing offenses, if you look at how they play the Colts, they don't, I don't think, think Sauce Gardener is quite as much of a joke as Twitter does. Colts are a massive slot funnel. Typically teams are not targeting Sauce or Charvarius Ward on the outside. They're usually going right at Justin Wally over and over again, or the tight ends or the running backs. They tend to be giving up a lot of plays towards those intermediate, middle of the field positions. Jeremy was playing slot this week, even before Roman Wilson went out with a hand injury. And so you had kind of DK getting shadowed by Sauce. You had Jeremy just racking up a bunch of targets and then Friar Moose, ultimately, of course, scores twice as well. So part of it, I think, matchup based. But I do think genuinely he's the second best target earner on the team when Pittman is off the field or unhealthy. And so if he's going to see 100 percent route rates on a offense that's been willing to pass a little bit more than people expected, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to be playable as like a wide receiver, three wide receiver, four for the rest of the season.
