Welcome to The Niche Is You. My name is Matt Gottesman, at Matt Gottesman on Instagram, and this is my daily podcast where I create short, quick hitting episodes to help you uncomplicate life, creativity, and the pursuit of your highest self. There's only main character energy here. Now let's get into it.
Welcome to episode 834 The value of your work is established long before anyone can bring a metric to it. This is deeply important. When you are first working on your path, maybe you're even further along in your path, and the world's eyes haven't fully caught up, the visibility hasn't caught up to the work yet or the metrics. I know we live in a very social media world or a monetary world, but all these things like that have the external metrics that prove your work has value. Let me tell you something. The work that was given to you, that only you can do, that God is bestowing through you, is the value. It's the most valuable thing. And when you get so good at honoring the work and the value of your work, long before it's ever understood by everybody else, it will put you in a category of like nobody else, you know? So, the basis of this episode is I want to say that why the internal knowing of what you've built precedes any external validation of it. Because if we fall prey to the worldly, to the external metrics, the external validation, you will chase a different path than the beautiful organic nature of the value of the work itself. Because you'll always be wanting to alter for the sake of the validation versus the depth of what you're here to do that only you can do. And some of you are thinking, well, but I'm in an industry like everybody else, and I'm in an art form or whatever it might be like everybody else. And so there's nothing different about it. Like, no, the differentiating factor is you, right? The niche is you, the differentiating fact is you. And there is a way that you will do things, especially if you're not catering to the trends and the algorithms, that you establishing a value with your work is so important that long before the metrics show up, because then you also know how to handle when the metrics show up. You'll know how to handle a large amount of visibility. You'll know how to sustain in a large amount of visibility. You'll know how to charge for your worth, right? So in this episode, I want to talk about why value is created long before it can be measured and why waiting for measurement to confirm is a trap. Two, I want to talk about how we've been trained to trust metrics more than we trust our own knowing. It's hard, right? And this isn't, it's not even just like in a social media world. It's also a lot of times you'll see, well, I guess I got to take that type of job because look at the people, the paychecks that they get from that job. So therefore, that's what I'm going to go after. And yes, okay, like there's, you know, visible fruit from a path, you know, but you have to also ask yourself if that's your path. Now, they may be on their path or they may not be on their path. More often than not, you see a lot of people that are not, but that's what they chose because that's, they wanted the external metric, the validation. And I get it. I get it. How could you not get it? I get it. I understand it. I just don't want to deal with the later on part where I feel unfulfilled and then have to, you know, finally answer the call, whatever that is for each of us, right? Also want to talk about the specific damage that happens when you outsource the validation of your work to external numbers.
You're going to have to put your blinders on and get deep into the work and keep at it and be consistent and bring and contribute that to the world in a consistent matter, one after the other, after the other, after the other, as you get better and evolve. Also want to talk about why the deepest work always exists in the gap between what's built and what can be measured.
Before all the views that I get daily, there were a lot of times where the visibility was not on my work. You know, and it's interesting, one of my favorite compliments from people online, outside the one where they're like, how are you in my head? Is like, how am I just finding your work now? And I'm like, I'm just grateful you're here. But I get it. I get it because, you know, it's a vast world out there. It's a vast world. And you know what? You know why that's a compliment is more so because I had time to get even better at my work when they found it. Now, do I wish that they were part of the journey more? Yeah, you know, but they're here now.
