May 18, 2022

This week’s conversation is with Tara Lipinski, an internationally acclaimed figure skater who you might recognize from her performance at the 1998 Nagano Olympic games where – at age 15 – she became the youngest athlete to win an individual Gold Medal in the history of the Winter Games.

So then I remember coming out of the spin and I come around the rink and I pass the judges and the media are all above and I'm going into my first jump, which is obviously an important part here. And I remember in that moment, I remember saying to myself, that angry, you're gonna show them.

Welcome back or welcome to the Finding Mastery podcast. I'm Dr. Michael Gervais by trade in training a sport and performance psychologist. And the whole idea behind this conversation is to learn from people who are challenging the edges and the reaches of the human experience and business and sport and science and life in general.

We pull back the curtain to explore how they have committed to mastering both their craft and their minds in an effort to express their potential.

Finding Mastery is brought to you by listening. This is exactly what their app does. It helps you listen to books and content that you might not be able to sit down and actually have the time to read. There was a time early in my career where I remember sitting in the back hallways of my university and being in the library for hours, reading all of the sports psychology literature and research that I could get my hands on. I loved it, I cherished it. The field of sports psychology is just absolutely on a bender right now. It is growing so fast, it is nearly impossible to keep up with all of the research that's coming out. So that's why I love what listening is doing. It's a game changer for me. So the listening app, it lets me listen to anything that's in writing while I'm on the go. Everything from academic papers to books, PDFs, webpages, articles, anything that I put in their app, it reads it to me, it narrates to me. And plus their AI is great. The way that the interface sounds, like of course it's not a human that's reading, but it kind of, the AI is so good of what they're doing, it just works.

And then there's also this note-taking function. They know that people like us like to take notes. And so it's as simple as when I hear a key idea, I just, I instantly press a button and that section is saved. They've done a really nice job with this product and they've got a great offer for us. Usually they only give a two-week trial, but because you are listening to Finding Mastery, you get a whole month for free. Check that out, a whole month for free. So I wanna encourage you to go check it out. listening.com/findingmastery or use the code Finding Mastery at checkout to get started. Again, it's listening.com/findingmastery or use the code Finding Mastery at checkout to get one month completely free. Finding Mastery is brought to you by Ritual. They are a supplement company. They just care about what they're doing. They are flat out committed.

And they've got this idea that Ritual's made traceable, which means that their products are made with a visible supply chain so that you can see exactly what they're doing, their key ingredients, the supply chain, the research, the whole thing. For companies that are showing you exactly what's on the inside, exactly how they're doing it so that you know and feel comfortable knowing what you're consuming, I think it's a really nice touch. I think it's required. I think they are setting the standard for supplement companies.

The product that I'm using right now that I flat out love is their Synbiotic. It's a three in one gut health supplement that microbiome is really important. So I need it. I think that you might benefit from it too, but of course I don't know. Go check out what they're doing.

And it just gives me this piece of mind knowing that this is a company, this is a brand that doesn't cut corners. If you haven't had the chance to listen to our Finding Mastery episode with Ritual's founder, Katarina Schneider, I really wanna encourage you to go check that out. It's episode 428 She's awesome. It's a fascinating conversation where Kat beautifully describes her story and Ritual's mission. They are investing in their company's quality so that you can invest in the quality of your life.

So I wanna encourage you to head over to ritual.com/mastery to get 25% off your first month of Ritual. And that's where you can get started on their subscription model. Again, this one's just a little different. It's ritual.com/mastery for 25% off.

Now, this week's conversation is with Tara Lipinski.

I'm sure you know her name. She is internationally recognized as a figure skater who changed the games. And you might remember it was way back, 1998, at the Nagano Olympic Games, where at the age of 15, she became the youngest athlete to win an individual gold medal in the history of the Winter Games.
