Hello, everybody, it's Ethan Klein, coming at you from Sonny B. Vaughn Radio. The day is 9-11, which is my personal 9-11.
Even after all these years, 9-11 is my 9-11, you know. But that's what it is, it's today, it's we have a show episode, we have an episode today. It's actually going to be quite a good one. And we're sponsored today by Omaha Steaks. Oh my goodness, we love Omaha Steaks. It is literally frozen solid.
SPEAKER_2 (0:46)
It's frozen solid.
Gabe (0:47)
It's Friday, baby.
Ethan Klein (0:49)
Gabe is here, it's Friday, baby. Can we get some woo woo woo?
Gabe (0:54)
It's Friday, baby. It's Friday, baby.
It's Friday, baby. It's Friday, baby.
Ethan Klein (1:01)
We've got to send you to a Juggalo meeting because their thing is they go woo woo. You can fit in there.
We got so much to get to, so much fun stuff. But actually, one thing we got had not really wasted any time. We wanted to connect with... Yes, I did, Dan.
I wanted to memorialize 9-11, talk to one of the most famous New Yorkers that was there at the time, who had a first sound account and a really somber remembrance of it. And that, of course, is someone that I've never had the pleasure of talking with before, I've been wanting to connect with for so dang long. It's, of course, you maybe know him as the trumpet guy, but we-
Douglas Levinson (1:54)
Wow, that's far beyond.
Ethan Klein (1:56)
Far beyond. But this is Douglas Levinson.
Hila Klein (2:00)
How are you doing?
Douglas Levinson (2:02)
Hi, everybody.
Gabe (2:05)
Wow, what a pleasure.
Ethan Klein (2:06)
What a pleasure to finally connect with you. How are you?
Douglas Levinson (2:10)
Very, very well. Today, of course, it's a monumental day here in New York.
And it's 25 years. And for those of us who renewed and moved forward, this is a time to observe, but also to celebrate the fact that life indeed does go on. And we'll always learn from the event because there's always more to learn. But it was remarkable to see this in, and such an amazing milestone to join you guys today.
Ethan Klein (2:40)
Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it. I'm really glad to join you.
Are you Jewish? I think you are. That's why I ask. I am too. Sorry if you're not.
Douglas Levinson (2:49)
Well, I don't hear you, Dan.
Ethan Klein (2:51)
Well, my name is Ethan. I'm the host of the show here.
Douglas Levinson (2:54)
Hi, Ethan.
Ethan Klein (2:54)
Yeah. And are you Jewish? I don't mean that I'm Jewish too.
Douglas Levinson (2:59)
No, no, no, no. It's a fair question. I will tell you.
Ethan Klein (3:02)
Okay.
Douglas Levinson (3:03)
I was at Tremont Temple.
Ethan Klein (3:06)
I ask because it's Rosh Hashanah today also.
Douglas Levinson (3:08)
Yes, I know.
SPEAKER_7 (3:09)
So you are?
Douglas Levinson (3:09)
Good yontif, good yontif, good yontif.
My accountant is very devout. He sends me this stuff every week.
SPEAKER_7 (3:17)
So your accountant is Jewish?
Douglas Levinson (3:17)
But I grew up in Tremont Temple, which was a reform. And reform was a lot more light and easy than it has now become.
And the rule was when my parents headed to the divorce, that I would have to see through the Saturday instruction. And that culminated in my bar misfa. And at my bar misfa, I had Uncle Henry Shaw from the conservative down the concourse from us at Tremont Temple. And my own.
Ethan Klein (3:48)
So that's a yes.
SPEAKER_7 (3:49)
Sounds like a yes.
Douglas Levinson (3:50)
So I had a stereo bar misfa.
Ethan Klein (3:53)
So it's a yes, it sounds like.
Douglas Levinson (3:54)
I buys at the bar misfa.
And I walked. I mean, frankly, I did not see Western religion. And I've been practicing transcendental meditation. January for me will be 54 years.
Ethan Klein (4:09)
Wow.
Douglas Levinson (4:09)
And the difference between Western religion.
Ethan Klein (4:12)
So just to confirm, you are Jewish.
Douglas Levinson (4:15)
My mother was Jewish.
Ethan Klein (4:16)
Yeah, your mother is Jewish. We are bar mitzvah. So you got the whole the whole shebang.
Douglas Levinson (4:20)
Sounds like it.
Ethan Klein (4:22)
And let's be honest, the temperament of a New York Jew as well, am I right?
Douglas Levinson (4:26)
Well, I'm a New Yorker, and a New Yorker transcends that particular side of it. I mean, I'm not just a Jewish guy from New York.
Ethan Klein (4:35)
No, so much more.
Douglas Levinson (4:37)
But I learned TM, Transcendental Meditation. They say January will be 54 years. And the difference is in Western religion, the idea is that you behave well to find the Almighty. Okay? And there is no God.
