Welcome to Glamorous Trash. This is a Cookie Jar episode where we bring in all of the topics that fit under the banner of Glamorous Trash that don't fit into our memoir episodes.

We discuss. I'm your host, Chelsea Devantez. You know who I am. Of course, I am here with our Cookie Jar co-host, as always, producer Kristina Lopez. Hi.

Kristina Lopez (1:26)

Hey, Chelsea. How's it going?

Chelsea Devantez (1:28)

Oh, man. Oh, man. A lot to get into.

Today, I'm going to read off what I have on my list, and I guess we'll see what we get to in the episode. One, I want to talk about East of Eden on Netflix, The Swan television show documentary, Dancing With The Stars, Alix Earle, and if you're like, who's that? Yes. Yes, yes, exactly.

Kristina Lopez (1:50)

You came to the right place.

Chelsea Devantez (1:51)

You came to the right place. We'll tell you who and what an Alix Earle is and why, and why mostly. Now, I've created a sandwich, right? All of those fun little topics, and then we are going to talk about the Cornell 7 just a little bit because I have something I want to add to all the coverage. But like I said, it's a sandwich. We're going to protect our hearts and minds by then talking about Marco Rubio's shoes that are way too big for him. We've got a Gavin De Becker update, unfortunately. Kristina and I have been watching and taking in a lot of content. I just want to do a little watchlist rundown, and then we're going to talk a little bit about some upcoming memoirs, Sylvester Stallone. We got a story from that we got to share. Kristi Carlson Romano, we got early copies, have to talk about that a little bit. All of those are coming on the podcast. We'll talk about all the books coming up, and we're going to attempt to answer a listener question about just like, how do you survive right now? How are we doing? How are we taking one step forward with so much going on? We're going to attempt to answer it. We'll see how that goes. Let's start the episode.

Okay, first, I am watching East of Eden on Netflix. This is a Netflix series adapted from John Steinbeck's novel, East of Eden. It stars Florence Pugh, and it's mostly written by Zoe Kazan, whose grandfather is the one who made the East of Eden movie.

Now, she's coming in to readapt it. She really centers the Cathy character in this Netflix series. There's seven episodes. Kristina, are you watching? Have you heard about it?

Kristina Lopez (3:30)

I've heard about it. I haven't watched. I also know the film from Zoe's grandfather with James Dean and Natalie Wood. I'm super fascinated because I really like Florence as an actress, Flo, if you know, you know.

Chelsea Devantez (3:45)

She is absolutely outstanding in this. Yes. Zoe Kazan's grandfather is Ilya Kazan, big Hollywood it man. Give us a little history about him, Kristina.

Kristina Lopez (3:58)

Yes. He did Streetcar Named Desire. He named names from the blacklist and caused a lot of writers and artists to lose their careers to save his own essentially.

Chelsea Devantez (4:08)

Yeah. Basically, when the Hollywood movement that was started by Ginger Rogers' mother, which we learned on this podcast.

Kristina Lopez (4:14)

I wonder if they'll cover that in the biopic.

Chelsea Devantez (4:17)

I really wonder. They better. The blacklist was a really sad time in our history where McCarthyism took hold and basically anyone who was ever associated with the Communist Party or Communist thoughts tied to the idea of socialism was banned and blacklisted from working. If you'd gone to a meeting to get some information or if someone just started a rumor about you, it was a way to ruin your career.
