I think we need to let's. And they may be abused like everything is, you know, either done for benefit, or for sometimes not such benefit. But it's okay with me, because I know people who've never been to the rainforest, never will go to the rainforest, that have been in Afghanistan, that have served in the military, who through ayahuasca have ended their post-traumatic stress to a degree that is miraculous. So I know that it's not an accident. I think it's part of the earth, the mother, helping us to realize we're not the apex predator. We need the plants. We need the other species. Our species has lost its way, and other species are coming to help us.

Welcome to the Midlife Chrysalis Podcast with Chip Conley, where we explore how midlife isn't a crisis, but a chrysalis, a time of profound transformation that can lead to the most meaningful chapter of your life.
**Chip Conley** (0:59)
Welcome to the Midlife Chrysalis. This is Chip Conley, and today we have a conversation that goes in a variety of different directions. It's two women who call themselves work wives, and have created a collaboration of an 81-year-old and a 65-year-old. So there's a little bit, while they're both boomers, the reality is they have various different life experiences. Lynne Twist is maybe one of the best known authors on the topic of money in the world, and based upon her book, The Soul of Money.
Sara Vetter is her collaborator both in the Soul of Money Institute, as well as the Pachamama Alliance, an alliance that actually helps indigenous people in the Amazon to continue their traditions and introducing people from the West to understanding the issues that are affecting people in the Amazon. We do talk about Ayahuasca, we do talk about work partnerships, and how do you make it work between two people over the course of now 17 or 18 years. We talk a lot about midlife and what they learned in midlife. Yeah, I think you'll enjoy it. They are leading a workshop in Santa Fe August 20th through the 23rd. Their workshops at both locations in Baja and in Santa Fe are some of our highest rated workshops. So I think you're going to enjoy this episode. I hope you will be able to join us in Santa Fe in the later summer.
At the end of this episode, this interview, I'll give you my perspective. Welcome to The Midlife Chrysalis, Lynn and Sara.
**Sara Vetter** (2:30)
Thank you. Yeah, I'm super excited to be here. Yeah, this is so much fun.
**Chip Conley** (2:36)
Lynn, beautiful to see you. Both of your backgrounds, both what you're wearing in your background. So Lynn's got, for those who can't see it, Lynn's got a, I'm colorblind, but I think a red sweater, but the background also has a light, you know, it's not red, but it's, there's something in your wall that sort of feels tannish, reddish. And then Sara's background is like wildly colorful flowers, and she's got a leopard skin top and a necklace. Both of you have necklaces. I mean, this is like a fashionista podcast we got today. I want to just start, Lynn, your work and The Soul of Money, a book that has been given to so many, so many people in the world have given that book to each other. And I want to explore that in a moment, but I want to start by your relationship with Sara. How did the two of you connect? I love the mentorship relationship that I've seen between the two of you. What hope does it give us for some intergenerational collaboration? Although you are both boomers.
One of you is an older boomer at 81, and one of you is a younger boomer at 65 And for those women out there saying, Chip, you're giving their ages away, that's terrible. Age, we should not be shameful about age.
Age is a marker for many, many positive things. So how did the two of you meet? How have you built a collaborative relationship over the course of a long period of time?
**Lynne Twist** (4:06)
Oh, gosh. Well, that's a big question. So we met, that's easy. We met at an event that Sara was organizing. For a guy named Sadguru, one of these wonderful Indian masters. And she invited me.
And then after that, I invited her to something. And when she walked in the room at the event I invited her to, I got this hit, I'm going to work with her. And that happens to me quite often.
And when it does, I'm usually absolutely right. Not only is Sara stunningly beautiful, but there's an energy about her, a vibe about her, that you can't mistake when she walks in the room. You can feel it. It's almost like the room changes. And I loved that experience. And so I went for it. And I invited her to go to the Amazon Rainforest with the Pachamama Alliance. It was a Pachamama Alliance event, the work we do in the Amazon Rainforest with Indigenous people. And she came. And those trips, those journeys to the Amazon Pachamama Alliance does are life-changing. Her life changed. And she can tell her version of the story. But that was the beginning. And it hasn't ended since then. And that is, I think, like 18 years ago. Yeah.
