We do have some special news regarding a project we've been following for several years now. Since the beginning, very prolific fan project, reaching the end of its run, and we'd like to introduce the folks from Brown Coats Redemption.

**Mike Dougherty** (2:55)
I'm Mike Dougherty. I'm the writer and director of Brown Coats Redemption, by the way, so nice to meet you.
So I just want to introduce Brian Reiser real quick, and then I'll let him have a seat. We are so close to that thing.
Oh, that's bad. How about I sit? Sitting is good. It's morning. So Brian is responsible. He made a lot of the introductions for getting us Adam Baldwin and Michael Fairman. So Brian also has the honor of actually being on the set of Serenity when they filmed. So if you want to take a real quick second and talk about your experience on Redemption.

With all the in-kind donations, I think the thing I learned most through this experience is that if we all come together, we can all really make a big difference with some really important charities and important causes in the world. And it just takes a little effort. And this project may be at an end, but that doesn't mean that we can't come together on something else. And I think that's probably the most important takeaway for me on this.
It's not that hard to do some real good.

So by a show of hands, who has a copy of Brown Coats Redemption?
Awesome. By a show of hands, who will be going immediately after this podcast to the Imperial Ballroom at the Marriott, picking up a copy before it's no longer available from the Southeastern Brown Coats. And having your numbers actually go towards the final total that we'll be announcing at the wrap party, which is edging on over $105,000 for charity.
To put that into perspective for you, that's just over or close to $105,000 for charity, but that's also above redemption paying for itself.
It started being completely out of pocket, like $3,000 out of my wallet and out of Heather's and out of somebody else's, and somebody came along and said in a very brown coat fashion, look, you guys are paying for everything. Can I pay for lunch for the crew this day? And then somebody's like, well, you need some firewood. Can I pay for that? And can I be a volunteer? And can I help? And that's just exactly the way that this community works, is that somebody just stands up and says, can I help? And here's how. And filming the entire thing cost about $40,000. It cost about $30,000 in legal fees to deal with the hands of blue to allow us to do this and not get canceled. So we had some really tight restrictions. We weren't allowed to do more than two iterations of the DVD. We got really lucky with the Blu-ray. We couldn't put the score as a bonus or anything but a bonus disc. We couldn't do paid media. We really had to go as grassroots about this as possible. So that $105,000 on top of the $80,000 to $90,000 it cost us over the course of the project really means that Brown Coats Redemption raised over $210,000.
