The Shining Review : Halloween Retrospective : GV Classic

Travis (0:01)

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to the Halloween Retrospective. And this year, we're doing, we're doing The Shining, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you to the patrons for putting in the suggestions and the Patreon producers for putting it in there. And thank you Patreon producers for not picking a movie I just watched last year, Halloween Retrospective. We did that. The franchise we're doing, Retrospective, next year we did that. So I thank you for picking some of that. You know, I see all the time, but luckily hadn't watched. I am the caretaker, trust now. I'm joined by...

I am the 237 enjoyer Kirkland Patzer.

Dylan Musse (0:39)

Hello, my name is Dylan Musse.

Taylor Field (0:42)

I am a doll boy, Taylor Field.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. I think I already said it, but if you haven't guessed, or maybe you just skipped ahead, you don't like the intros. We're here to talk about The Shining. We do this every year in the fall somehow. We don't have any in the other years, but in the fall we do a Halloween movie, a video game movie and a Christmas movie. So that will be the next one. If people are wondering in November, I'll start making a poll here, or end of October I'll make a poll and ask you guys for some submissions. I feel like for the video game ones, I know we still got quite a few, but I feel like eventually we could get to the end of that, where Halloween, Christmas could be around. But yeah, that will be the next one. So stay tuned. You can put in submissions if you join Patreon. Very much appreciate it. And producer, you get to pick everything we're doing. I don't know when this is coming out. I think it will come out for everybody close to Halloween, but just head down below for everything you know that has everything for what we do, video, audio, Patreon, where you get ad-free episodes, due voting like I just said. But most importantly, November 8th is our Extra Life charity stream. We're trying to raise $2,500 for the BC Children's Hospital. But luckily if we don't hit that, all the money keeps towards the BC Children's Hospital. As we've said, if we can get close to that, boys, we will have hit 20K Canadian for our BC Children's Hospital the entire time we've been doing it in nine years. It was pretty impressive, more than 1,000, or how does that work up? More than, I don't know, I had the math in my head. I just thought it would have been something past 10 years.

Taylor Field (2:00)

2,000 every year for 10 years.

Travis (2:03)

Yeah, it's just surprising, even 1,000 a year, it's great. So get us to that, and there's gonna be lots of things you get on the lock along the way. It's gonna be a very fun time, old events, new events, the same old shenanigans at 1 to 2 a.m., so look out for that. But here we are, I don't know who I wanna start with. I think I'm gonna start with Mr. Musk, because I feel like I've talked to Taylor about this movie many times. I know Taylor's like, oh, I hope that wins the poll. So I think I know Taylor's thoughts on this. So Mr. Musk, I'm gonna ask, was this the first time you've seen this? If not, when did you see it before and what was your history with The Shining? Or like I said, is it the first time?

Dylan Musse (2:38)

The first time I watched it was back in the Dome era, so it would have been seven, eight years ago, something like that, because I think Ceres was a fan, and so we watched it one week from late.

Taylor Field (2:49)

Really? Okay.

Travis (2:50)

Was it just a YouTube or was there other people around?

Dylan Musse (2:53)

Clinton was probably pouting around in the background. I don't remember the full scene. Maybe Amber was there, I'm not exactly sure. But yeah, that was the first time I watched it. So kind of years later after hearing that it's one of the greats and all that. And then I think I was on the Doctor Sleeper View. I'd have to go back in the Annals of Time and check out that YouTube video.

Because I definitely saw it and I remember talking about it for Golden Geeks. We talked about Golden Geeks, yeah. So that makes sense. And then I think even just looking around, I don't know if I've seen, I think I've seen Space Odyssey. I'm trying to think of the other cubic things I've seen. There's maybe not many.
