They went into that game six, it came out six. So, it tells you what they think about where that program is at right now. I mean, they're still a playoff team. You know, if the playoff started today, Georgia, Bama, Texas, Ole Miss probably in.
And four, four, I think, would be a record for the SEC in terms of the 12-team playoff. I'm pretty sure the conference has only gotten three in.
SPEAKER_3 (1:22)
Since the 12-team, I think so.
Mike G (1:24)
Yeah, I think it's only been three, but they've had the opportunity to get five.
SPEAKER_3 (1:29)
No, they got four last year.
Mike G (1:31)
Who went last year?
SPEAKER_3 (1:32)
Bama, Oklahoma, Texas and Georgia.
Mike G (1:35)
Oh, yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_3 (1:37)
Yeah, they got four last year.
Mike G (1:38)
Yeah, so five, as far as Sankey is concerned, is the goal. You know, he wants to fill up like half that playoff. Same way they did the Sweet 16 a couple of years ago.
So, I just thought Auburn would be in that mix from the 20 to 15 spot.
SPEAKER_3 (2:01)
They're saying, and A&M last year. A&M did go, so they got five in last year. Was it?
Ike Jones (2:06)
Yeah, A&M lost to Miami in the playoffs.
SPEAKER_3 (2:09)
That sounds five in last year. They got five. So, I think it was Texas A&M. Yes, right, because A&M beat Texas, right?
Ike Jones (2:19)
It was Texas A&M, Bama, Oklahoma, Georgia.
Mike G (2:22)
Ole Miss and Georgia played, didn't it?
SPEAKER_3 (2:24)
It was, so it was four, it was four. It was four then. It was four, A&M, Georgia, Bama, Oklahoma.
Mike G (2:33)
So, Texas didn't make it?
Ike Jones (2:36)
No.
SPEAKER_3 (2:38)
Just A&M.
Ike Jones (2:38)
Because, you know, they played, Texas wasn't really that good last year.
Mike G (2:42)
A&M was supposed to be in the SEC Championship game, but they blew the last game, right?
SPEAKER_3 (2:46)
Yeah, don't they play A&M the last game of the year?
Mike G (2:49)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think they blew the last one, and that's how they didn't get in to the SEC Championship. But, you know, it just felt like Auburn would be in that mix. Now, to be clear, what's Auburn sitting right now?
3-2?
Ike Jones (3:03)
3-2, yeah.
Mike G (3:04)
Right, I mean, you only have two losses.
Ike Jones (3:06)
Oh, we're forgetting about Ole Miss. Ole Miss was in last year.
Mike G (3:11)
So it was five.
SPEAKER_3 (3:12)
Yeah. Damn, I'm tripping.
Ike Jones (3:16)
Yeah. Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Bama and I just forgot somebody again.
Mike G (3:25)
Yeah, I'm looking at the bracket now. Right, so in round one, Oklahoma and Alabama played.
Ike Jones (3:32)
Yep.
Mike G (3:33)
Texas A&M played Miami, Georgia had to buy. Ole Miss played two lane. So one, two, three, four, five. That was five.
Ike Jones (3:43)
Damn.
Mike G (3:46)
And in the next round, Ole Miss and Georgia squared off, Ole Miss won. Alabama lost to Indiana.
And Ole Miss was the only team that made it through to the semis. Then they lost to Miami by four points. Miami went against Indiana, Indiana won it all. Wow. Okay. Five is the goal, I think, every year. I think five is the goal every year. And right now, you're primed for that.
Right now, with that group of teams, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, they're all sitting there clamoring to get in because Ole Miss, Texas, Alabama and Georgia are in, as of right now. They're top ten teams. But that group, if one, if not two, I just saw Auburn would be right there in that group by mid-October with Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, with a chance if they could pull off a big upset to stay in the conversation.
Ike Jones (4:56)
I mean, here's the thing. Auburn's not far off of that expectation. They're one game away from being there, but they still have to win this. The problem is, they got a tougher road going here at the end of this.
Mike G (5:08)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The issue is the expectation that they can. I mean, they're going to be a dog in every game, SEC game they got left, except for Arkansas. Who did Arkansas play yesterday? That looked like a game. Tennessee. Yeah, that looked like a game for a little bit. Oh, yeah, it was a game. They lost. They won 24-17.
