All right.
Turning your Bibles to the Book Of Revelation, Chapter Number 1 Now, if you don't know where Revelation is, just turn all the way to the end, that's where we are.
We're in the Book Of Revelation, and I've been praying and trying to prepare and trying to get ready for this series. I was texting a pastor friend this afternoon who recently went through the Book Of Revelation. He said it was the hardest, but most satisfying study he's ever done. And I'm really excited because he's going to send me his notes to help me out, all right?
And so we are joking back and forth a little bit, and tonight is going to be more setting the table. We're going to deal with the first eight verses, but it's also going to be more setting the table for a proper biblical understanding of the Book Of Revelation.
There is probably not a book that is more confusing, or more confused by Bible scholars, Bible students, or people looking to create doctrines. So the cults love the Book Of Revelation, because there's things very hard to understand, and you can get one little phrase that doesn't seem to make sense, and they build whole doctrines on of that. And so, we're going to try to be very careful, very biblical. My goal is not going to be to unexplain all the teachings that people have said about Revelation, or we will be in this study for the next six years.
That is not my goal, but to simply give a simple understanding of what God has said is going to come in the future. And so, our title for our series is this, The Revelation Of Jesus Christ. Very original. It's the first of five verses there of the Book Of Revelation. We're going to explain some of what that means. And really, that's what it's about. And so, let's just use the words of Scripture. Let's open our hearts, open our minds, as we get into the Revelation, Chapter 1
Verse number 1, the Bible says, The Revelation Of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him to show unto his servants things which, this is a key word, must shortly come to pass. And he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John. This would be John the Apostle, John who wrote the Gospel of John, John who wrote the letter, the letter or epistle of 1 John that we're in on Sunday morning. Same guy here, okay? The beloved disciple, at this point of his life, he is the last living apostle. All the other apostles have been martyred. This is somewhere around 100 AD. And he is up in years, very mature, we would say. We're gonna get into some more of that, but he said he sent it by a servant, John, verse number 2, who bear record of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ and of all the things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand. This is actually the only book in the New Testament where there is a blessing on those who read and hear the words of this book. So the Book Of Revelation is very important. God says, those who read, hear, and keep it, they're going to be blessed.
Verse number 4, John. To the seven churches which are in Asia, grace be unto you and peace from him which is, and which was, and which is to come. And from the seven spirits which are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth, unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God his father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, attention word. Hey, look at this. Behold, listen up. He cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him, they also which pierced him, and all the kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him, even so. Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. So that's where we're going to stop this evening.
We have plenty to consider just in those. How many were already saying, okay, pastor, I'm a little bit lost just getting into this. Hopefully not, but we're going to get some explanation, but also set the table for what is to come. Simply, here's our title tonight, The Revelation Of Jesus Christ, sermon number one.
