Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome to another Saturday Conundrum. I'm Brian, one of the co-hosts of The Daily AI Show. Now, Monday through Friday, we do live shows with the rest of the co-hosts at 10 a.m. Eastern, and you're always welcome to join us there. We've been, we are coming up on our three-year anniversary, and we just passed episode 765 So we've been doing it for a while, but on Saturdays, we like to do these conundrum episodes. And basically, here's how it works, because I actually did just have a comment on Spotify where somebody asked me if the two other voices, voice two and three, so the ones that follow me, were human or AI. They're absolutely AI.
I always want to make that super, super clear. When I started the conundrum episodes over, well over a year ago now, I think we're close to 100 of them at this point, that it was always sort of a test for me, because Notebook LM had just come out, I think, at that point. And I was like, oh, these audio overviews are really, really cool. I love the way you could just do research and then get this like audio book type synopsis or discussion. So always, always, always has that been AI, but I always want to make that clear, because like we don't use AI voices or avatars on our live show. It's only on this one conundrum episode where I do this live intro, like you're hearing me say now, this obviously isn't, or hopefully, you know, this isn't AI.
I trip over my own words way too much for it to be AI.
But the two voices you do hear after me that take us the rest of the conversation, they are absolutely AI. The process is pretty straight forward. I've always used this process to, with some variants, but was just using the latest models in ChatGPT this week to help me refine the idea I had for the conundrum. Usually, the conundrum comes from the show topics, from just my daily life, just some weird thought I had, and I go, oh, I wonder how AI is going to affect that in the future. That's honestly where the conversations start. Then ChatGPT helps me refine it. Then Perplexity's Deep Research helps do the actual cited resource research for it, because I always like to have really good cited resources and then I go and check and validate all that stuff. Then once I'm happy with the research, like the output research, that gets handed over to Google Notebook LM, which then takes it the last step to do the audio overview. By the way, they now have a video overview that's very, very cool, Google Notebook LM. That's nothing to do with this, because this isn't a video show. But go check that out in Notebook LM if you have it. That's a very cool tool.
So okay, so that's how the process works. Yes, it is to AI voices. Yes, that's the entire intention of it. And I started it as a test. I really didn't know how those shows were due. I kind of, if I'm being honest with you, I expected on Spotify for the episodes that have a lot less views, but they don't. Or I would say listens, I should say. But they don't, they actually perform close to, I would say 75 to 85% as many listens as our normal shows do. I find that interesting, but I think it comes down to the same thing. If it's an interesting topic, it's an interesting topic. And so these shows are obviously a lot shorter. I'm going to wrap up my intro here really quick so we can get into it. So they sit more around the 20-25 minute mark. Our live shows are closer to an hour. And that might be part of it as well. So, okay, let's get into this week now that I've kind of given you the quick rundown of how this works in case you've never been here before in one of our Conundrum episodes. This one's called the Reciprocity Trap Conundrum. That's a mouthful. And the real quick where this came from was just having a conversation with my neighbors about ring doorbells and connected devices and AI as part of those edge devices in your life, whether it be a wearable or something attached to your house like a floodlight or a thousand other things, right? And it got into the conversation about what happens in the future when sort of your whole neighborhood, right? Your whole your whole social circle is connected in a way, whether it's for doing carpools or whatever it is. And you opt out in the future when all the agents, the thousands upon agent, AI agents are talking to each other.
