Now, the Shotgun Start in golf is full of mathematics.
There's a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work. So, I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a Shotgun Start here. And here we go. All right, all right, all right.
Brendan Porath (0:40)
Greetings and welcome to a Friday edition of The Shotgun Start. It is October 9th. Andy, how are we doing?
Andy Johnson (0:47)
Brendan, I'm doing great. I'm doing, I feel good for Chicago. You know, I'm excited for you that you get a kind of focus, you know, single down your focus on sports, on to, you know, playoff contender at this point.
Brendan Porath (1:05)
What's that? The Browns? Playoff contention? No, we're still alive, but the guards are still alive.
Andy Johnson (1:11)
We're still alive, but you know, I'm going to last likes here.
Brendan Porath (1:16)
We'll see about that.
Andy Johnson (1:18)
Tommy Pham is going to stick it to you.
Brendan Porath (1:25)
I got a lot, a lot of angry messages from Cubs fans, I would say, and just in part suggesting you're out of pocket, out of line, becoming a White Sox fan.
Andy Johnson (1:37)
I'm not a White Sox fan. I'm rooting for my friends. I want my friends to be happy.
Brendan Porath (1:43)
I love the rationalization that you have an owner, therefore a similar owner, therefore you're empathized. Get out of here. Like I'm just supposed to be a Bucs fan because the Haslums own the Bucs, and I also own the Browns.
Andy Johnson (1:57)
You can sympathize, though, with Bucs fans that they have to deal with this shit. The Rhino Tourists are the cheapest owners in the world.
Do you remember the athletic article done about the White Sox?
Brendan Porath (2:10)
Yeah, I understand, but you're not a White Sox fan.
Andy Johnson (2:14)
They're flying around in the worst jet of any MLB team.
Brendan Porath (2:17)
The great news is when the Guardians get bounced, I can just go back to celebrating my Knicks title because the Dolan family that owns the Guardians also owns the Knicks. So I can just, using this sort of osmosis theory that you're proposing to ownership, I can just be all about the Knicks season.
Andy Johnson (2:34)
I think people are taking this the wrong way.
I'm rooting for two teams at this point. I'm rooting for the Dodgers to dispatch the fraudulent Brewers, reading Bob Euker letters.
Brendan Porath (2:51)
Bob was up there in the roof looking down from above.
Andy Johnson (2:56)
I'm rooting for my friends. Some of my best friends are White Sox fans. Some of my family are White Sox fans. I'm rooting for them, their happiness. I want them to be happy. What is wrong with that?
What could possibly be wrong with wanting some of your best friends and family to be happy?
Brendan Porath (3:16)
Because they can be happy in other ways. That isn't your crosstown rival delivering it.
Andy Johnson (3:22)
It's not a rivalry, in my opinion. I don't know.
Brendan Porath (3:27)
I shouldn't go into it, no.
Andy Johnson (3:29)
Go into it, go into it.
Brendan Porath (3:30)
I mean, I have a literal family member playing for a prominent Division I football program right now, that I have at times bitterly despised.
I don't know. I mean, that's a lot of cognitive dissonance going on there, you know? That's tough. The whole make your family happy thing. I don't know. It's the rivalry. Your family could be happy for other reasons, and wish happiness for them. Anyways.
Andy Johnson (4:02)
I say to this, what would you say, PJ? What do you think you could say?
Brendan Porath (4:07)
Well, we can write a letter.
SPEAKER_4 (4:09)
I think you could say that he got into the game up in heaven today, and they're playing a team from hell, and that's how he would describe the San Diego Padres. Apparently, the Dodgers now, and whatever else Pat Murphy decides to write on his behalf.
Brendan Porath (4:21)
I did have one Cubs fan said to me that his own personal hell would be a White Sox Brewers World Series.
SPEAKER_1 (4:27)
The Cubs fans would hate that most.
Andy Johnson (4:29)
It is a bad situation. The Brewers, the Dodgers, I can't believe I'm just all aboard the Dodgers Express. I might buy Dodgers uniforms, hats and just throw. I'm throwing all my weight. I have a huge Tarek Scoobel guy now. I'm a huge Yamamoto's my G.
I am so, I mean, I couldn't believe how hard I was rooting for the Padres. PJ and I were texting at 1130 last night about this can't keep happening.
