College football is back, so Hilton called on me, the Superstition Concierge, to make your fan rituals a reality. Need a room to match your lucky number? We got you. Wanna make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Ooh, that smells lucky.

Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition. Even a marching band wake up call at 555 in 55 seconds. Hit it! When you need a team that will do whatever it takes on game day, it matters where you stay. Hilton, for the stay.

This is entry 32 of Expedition to Handheld. I'm Russ Crandall.

Cary (1:04)

I'm The Phawx, and we'll be your guides on this journey of a handheld gaming discovery.

Russ Crandall (1:09)

Buckle up, Adam's not around, so we get to play around.

Cary (1:13)

Woo-hoo.

Russ Crandall (1:23)

Hey, so we do not have Adam today. He is in the middle of moving from California to North Carolina. He's actually on a plane as we're recording, so I'm hosting today. It's a rare Russ hosting episode, but we got a fun guest. We've got Cary from The Phawx. What's up, man?

Cary (1:39)

Hey, how's it going?

SPEAKER_2 (1:40)

Thank you so much for having me, Russ.

Cary (1:41)

I enjoy talking to you, buddy.

Russ Crandall (1:42)

Dude, it's so weird to have just the two of us. Usually, there's someone else in the room. You know what I mean? It's like being alone with you in a room is just a little bit awkward because usually I got Bill carrying the conversation or something else like that. So it's fun.

Another thing I was thinking of when we were starting this up and I had invited over, I was like, oh, you're one of the only people that have been in this room right here, like in the world. You know what I mean? So I was going to make a joke about, oh, do you wish you over on this side of the camera kind of thing?

Cary (2:15)

Yeah. No, I feel honored too. It was awesome. It was also really cool to see it from the other side. So it was a pleasure. I do really appreciate it. You've taken that whole day for me. I really do appreciate it.

SPEAKER_2 (2:27)

I know time is valuable.

Russ Crandall (2:28)

Yeah, no worries.

Cary (2:28)

I said it before, but yeah, I truly mean it.

Russ Crandall (2:31)

Yeah. So Cary came to Hawaii, it was about what, three weeks ago now, and came and visited with the whole family and stuff, but he broke off and we had a day just like retro game shopping and stuff.

Cary (2:43)

That was actually the best GameStop I've ever been to ever, which is like, yeah, no, it was the best GameStop I've ever been to ever there. The second best was one in Chicago.

Russ Crandall (2:54)

That's so crazy to me.

Because I literally said to you, I was like, we got GameStop, they're not good. Then you walk in, you're like, what is this? It was just nice and clean, I guess.

Cary (3:04)

GameStops around me are just, I don't know.

Most of the used games are just the disks. So you just have endless streams of black boxes.

So it's not pleasant to look at, and I don't want it because I want the full thing. So I was just like, well, I'm not having any of that. Then I'll look at the one game that's like, oh, Madden. I don't want it. It's just not exciting. So seeing a bunch of gear, like you had, dude, it was like what? Flintlock for Xbox. I've never seen a physical of that ever. Like, so it is like truly bizarre. I actually should have picked it up because on eBay, it's actually hard to find.

Russ Crandall (3:43)

Oh really?

Cary (3:44)

It's expensive. That's interesting.

Russ Crandall (3:45)

Yeah, I've been meaning to go back, because we both have been building up an Xbox library because we're anticipating this whole disk to digital thing.

And now that it's out actually as of recording this today, it's actually rolling out to all users. And so, yeah, I need to go back and really kind of build up my catalog. I'm at that tipping point though, where it's like when I go into a store, I'm like, do I own this or not? I don't know. And so I don't like being in that position because then I have doubles. I've got like two of Assassin's Creed Origins for some reason, things like that. Yeah, yeah.
