A couple and their midwife settle in for a cozy home birth in a remote home deep in the woods.
And then all hell breaks loose. Literally, it's Goody Goody on Shudder. I'm Matt Singer.
Jordan Hoffman (0:20)
And I'm Jordan Hoffman. With more movies, more series, more stuff going straight to streaming than ever before, I feel like the right time for a podcast that keeps track of it all. And that podcast is Filmspotting SVU.
This week, we've got a review of Goody Goody, plus some related streaming recommendations. Pregnancy movies? Pregnant with Hellspawn movies? Then we're going to find out. Plus we'll also tell you about this week's new to VOD and streaming titles and a new game. Who's the games master this week?
Matt Singer (0:55)
You didn't get the memo? You were supposed to do it.
Jordan Hoffman (0:57)
It better not be me because I didn't prepare anything. It's me. Okay, good. Games this week. It's all coming up. Matt, where is it all coming up?
Matt Singer (1:04)
On Filmspotting SVU.
Welcome to Filmspotting SVU. I'm Matt Singer. Later in the show, we'll get to the Rec Seg, the recommendation segment, of course, with streaming recommendations inspired by this week's review. Plus, we've got a listener request. Well, we have listeners right in. Ask us for something they can stream at home. And this time, we have a very interesting request. It is a request for an entry-level horror movie for kids. Hmm. What would we recommend?
Jordan Hoffman (1:41)
We are official. This is the first episode in Spooktober. I mean, we are in we are in spooky season, officially. Hence, Goody Goody is a scary movie. This listener, Req Seg, is a scary movie. We are going to be so scared.
Matt Singer (1:54)
I am talking to Jordan. That is always scary for me. I don't know what is going to come out of his mouth.
Jordan Hoffman (2:00)
We are going to be seeing ghosts any minute. It is a very, very scary time here. Sam, maybe there is some scary music you could play in the background during this.
Matt Singer (2:09)
Yeah.
Sam Van Hallgren (2:09)
The scary version of the Bazooga theme, of course.
Matt Singer (2:19)
It is the ghost of old home video formats. We are haunted by old Betamax tapes. I recorded this on VHS on, what were they called? It was like SPREP.
People who are under the age of 30 have no idea what we're talking about.
Jordan Hoffman (2:42)
Every time you tape something off a TV, you had a choice to make. Do you record it on SP, which meant that it would be better quality, but you'd only get two hours of tape or on EP, and I may have the two reversed. EP, you'd get eight hours of tape.
Sam Van Hallgren (2:57)
Eight hours for one tape.
Matt Singer (2:58)
Was it eight or was it six? I think it might have been six.
Sam Van Hallgren (2:59)
It depended on the tape, I think.
Jordan Hoffman (3:01)
Maybe six, but it would be crappier.
Matt Singer (3:04)
Right, it would look even worse than VHS already looked, but you could cram more stuff onto the tape, and this was a calculation. I don't think anybody ever recorded anything in the two-hour format. You always went for that. I got to, because the tapes were expensive.
Jordan Hoffman (3:19)
It's so funny you should say that, because now I'm remembering that when we used to do, and many families in the 80s did this, it was like, oh, we're going to tape this one off of the ABC movie of the week. That's right. And we had a little mini library of all these cool movies we had. And you could cram three on a tape, because it would be eight hours, or six hours, or whatever it is. But I remember once in a blue moon, my dad would be like, oh, I love this movie. It's one of the greatest. You know, Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart. You know what? Tonight, honey, we're recording on the SP.
And we'd be like, what?
Matt Singer (3:53)
Put the kids to bed, honey. We're watching an SP movie tonight.
Jordan Hoffman (3:58)
It was like, what? Oh, my God, an SP. It must be serious. This is exciting. And your wife, your mom is banning herself.
Exactly. Well, Gen X knows what I'm talking about. This is honest to God's truth.
Sam Van Hallgren (4:14)
So SP, standard play, EP, extended play, also called SLP. So we got it right. We got it right. You got it. Super long play.
Matt Singer (4:22)
Standard play and extended play.
