In this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Jeremie Boyer, co-founder and lead research analyst at Aurelion Research, for a conversation on what it looks like to build an independent research firm in your early 20s and how staying outside traditional institutional constraints can be a genuine edge.

We break down his process for identifying ideas before the broader market catches on, from tracking global elections as a timing signal to uncovering shipping cycles that large funds won't touch and why he believes a simple, well-timed price target beats a full DCF model almost every time. We also get into why Aurelion keeps its portfolio concentrated but sector diversified, what he learned from his early calls in oil tankers and Canadian consumer brands, and the internship pitch that didn't land but set everything else in motion. Hi, Robert. Thank you for having me on your podcast today.

Absolutely. It's great to have you. We had your colleague on, I want to say a couple of months ago now, Leo, and he was like-

Yeah. Listen, you got to have Jeremie on too, man.

He's got a lot to say, so you know what? I thought the timing was good to have you on to talk through a little bit more about your style, your research process, and all that jazz. To start us off, for those that aren't familiar with you, or your background, or even Aurelion Research, I'd love to hear where you got to get your start investing and looking at MicroCaps.

Yeah, for sure.

Right now, I'm 24, so a couple of years ago, maybe at 18, I started maybe investing more professionally, I would say. I'm still pretty young, but after I graduated from university and everything, I did an internship with Rivemont MicroCap Fund, and with Mathieu Martin, which you already know.

Yeah. For MicroCap, Mathieu is really good, and that's where maybe I learned more fundamental research, but on my own, I was always maybe more of a comedities guy or unusual maybe opportunities, I call them. And all of this together kind of made from all the books and things I learn and read, my skill set maybe. And as it goes now, I think I'm really, really better analyst and investor. Because usually they would be the sell side role, the buy side role, or just investor. But I think they're all kind of the same, but you can't do the same stuff, whenever which you choose. So that's why maybe I co-found Aurelion Research with my partner Leo. And we are really independent. We can do all the research.

We can act really quick. I think it's a big strange we have, because let's say tomorrow, I think we are adding new stocks.

But just because there was the new tariff, we add one stock that we wanted to add. But if you are in a typical maybe fund, you would need to wait one week, do two round table with the PNs, and you wait and you lose returns. So maybe that's a good thing for us.
