Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another Nextlander Podcast, Alex Navarro, welcome.
Brad Shoemaker (0:17)
Well, thank you. Yeah. Welcome me to my show. I appreciate that.
Vinny Caravella (0:22)
Special guest.
Brad Shoemaker (0:22)
I love being a special guest on this show.
Alex Navarro (0:25)
Special guest. I'm back.
For the first time, Brad Shoemaker.
Vinny Caravella (0:30)
Wow. Welcome back to my DBX 286S.
Alex Navarro (0:33)
That's great. Great. The first time back. Welcome back, DBX, in the rotating chair.
Vinny Caravella (0:38)
My favorite guest. Same DBX. I checked the serial number. It's the same one.
Alex Navarro (0:43)
For the folks who aren't following the saga, that is Brad's hardware.
Vinny Caravella (0:46)
Channel strip. It's my pre-processor audio thing. Audio doohickey.
Alex Navarro (0:52)
Audio thing.
Vinny Caravella (0:54)
Same box, new board. New guts.
Alex Navarro (0:59)
Same box, new board.
Vinny Caravella (1:00)
They put a new board in it and it has not caused a problem yet. So hopefully, I'm over here.
Alex Navarro (1:05)
Knock on wood. Making noises.
Vinny Caravella (1:07)
You can't hear it unless I talk while I'm doing it.
Alex Navarro (1:11)
Yes.
Vinny Caravella (1:13)
Can you hear it while I talk?
Alex Navarro (1:14)
I don't know. Hear what?
Vinny Caravella (1:16)
I'm furiously clicking my mouse over here.
Alex Navarro (1:18)
I do not hear it. I can't hear it. I don't hear shit.
Brad Shoemaker (1:20)
Oh, yeah.
Vinny Caravella (1:24)
My computer nervous tick of just aimlessly right clicking the mouse all over the place.
Alex Navarro (1:30)
I have like four, I'm not sure I have two, presets for you.
Your dbx, your post dbx, and now maybe I can just go back to the old dbx one. It's mostly noise gate stuff and EQ stuff. But we had a good transition there, so maybe I should just jump on it. Speaking of the board.
Vinny Caravella (1:50)
Speaking of resonance.
Alex Navarro (1:52)
Speaking of resonance, control.
Brad Shoemaker (1:54)
Speaking of things that are out of control.
Alex Navarro (1:57)
We should just jump into it because I think there's a lot to talk about here. Oh yeah. It's Control Resonant, and let me just say, I don't know if we will get much into spoilers here, but if you're on media blackout, of course, skip this part, use the markers or go past the break on this podcast. We're probably going to talk early stuff here.
Brad Shoemaker (2:18)
Early game setup stuff, I think.
Alex Navarro (2:21)
I don't think story-wise there's that much to spoil. I didn't really keep track too much of the run-up to release to know what they talked about in the story. But beyond some of the setup here, I think we're mostly going to talk about mechanics and what's in the game. If you're looking to avoid anything, there's my last warning here, just skip past this part. But if you want to know more about what we think and what the mechanics are like, and general feel of the gameplay and the loop and all that stuff, we're probably going to dig into that.
Brad Shoemaker (2:51)
Yes. But I will say, if you've heard anything about this game, it's probably from the stuff that was SGF, which is literally the first 90 minutes to two hours of the game basically, which I played.
Alex Navarro (3:01)
So I'll set up this and say that the game leans heavy into story stuff in the very beginning, the first couple of minutes there, and then just sets you off to go do stuff.
Vinny Caravella (3:11)
The thing I was going to say is the structure of this game is such that it kind of defies spoiling for a while. Obviously, eventually, you're going to do all the story missions, and those are a linear campaign from start to finish, and you can spoil that. But this is an open world ass open world game. I was not prepared for the extent to which Control Resonant is an urban open world game.
And part of that from the spoiler standpoint is that it's got a lot of side stuff in it that is just its own little self-contained story, because that's the nature of open world games, right? There is a main A-plot that you will go through in this game, but also a lot of the content.
Alex Navarro (3:48)
I think.
Vinny Caravella (3:49)
Well, yeah, I mean, I have not done a ton of it since they turned me loose, because I've been doing other stuff. But, you know, like the little, it's like, oh, I'm in the middle of investigating like that dig site quest right now, which is just its own little 30-minute story line.
